Job Description:
The School of Access & Academic Preparation at Capilano University invites applications for one regular full-time instructor. This is a unionized position with a teaching commitment of 8 courses per academic year. Courses have a maximum of 35 students and will be delivered at our North Vancouver campus. This role requires instructors to teach in the Fall and Spring terms. This position will begin on September 1 2026.
The successful candidate will teach courses that support workplace readiness social development transition skills and employment preparation. The position combines classroom instruction with work experience coordination and student support. The successful candidate may also be asked to teach or develop other courses within their area of expertise. Duties include:
Teach subjects and skills related to your area of expertise.
Prepare and deliver courses which includes lectures seminars tutorials labs clinical supervision field trips and online or hybrid classes.
Evaluate student learning through assessments and marking.
Provide support to students through weekly office hours and advising.
Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain expertise and stay current with advancements and best practices in relevant fields of study.
They will also be expected to support the schools initiatives and provide service to Departmental Faculty and University wide committees including:
Create and update course materials outlines and curriculum.
Participate in meetings committees and events at the program department faculty and university levels.

Experience competencies & qualifications
A Masters degree in Education Special Education Disability Studies Counselling Adult Education Human Development or a closely related discipline
The successful candidate will bring demonstrated experience and expertise in supporting students with diverse learning needs including cognitive physical emotional and mental health-related learning challenges. They will have the ability to employ a variety of instructional techniques to support student learning and success and foster a classroom environment that promotes confidence self-advocacy inclusion and belonging.
Candidates will possess the interpersonal skills necessary to work collaboratively and cooperatively with colleagues students staff employers and community partners. Experience securing developing and supporting work placements for students with diverse abilities is required.
The successful candidate will demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to issues affecting students lives including personal empowerment learning difficulties trauma grief poverty and other barriers to educational and employment success. They will have a proven ability to create supportive learning environments that meet the needs of students from diverse backgrounds experiences and circumstances.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments a teaching portfolio and for short-listed candidates outstanding performance during a teaching demonstration and strong references from individuals who have previously supervised their work.

Salary information
$9420 per instructional section to a maximum of $14391 per instructional section based on previous experience. Scale placement will be completed according to the Collective Agreement.
