Job Summary
Location: Ayr Ontario
Shift: 4 10-hour shifts (Monday Thursday OR Tuesday Friday rotated as needed)
At GFL our Lead Hands play a vital role in driving shop safety productivity and technical this key leadership and hands-on role you will perform advanced repairs maintenance and diagnostics on our heavy vehicles and equipment while overseeing afternoon shift operations coordinating work assignments and mentoring apprentices in a brand-new facility.

Modern Fleet & Shop: Maintenance support for a fleet of Mack & Volvos in a brand-new maintenance shop featuring 6 double-length bays.
Licensing: Valid 310T Truck and Coach License
Equipment & Tools: Own tools required.
Leadership Experience: Prior experience in a Lead Hand Charge Hand or Supervisory capacity within a heavy-duty shop environment is a strong asset.
Technical Expertise: Advanced knowledge of commercial vehicle systems (electrical hydraulic pneumatic and computer diagnostics). Welding experience is considered an asset.
Communication & Teamwork: Strong leadership communication and organizational skills to manage shift priorities and support team members.
Experience: 5 years of heavy truck/equipment maintenance experience preferred.
Shift Leadership & Coordination: Oversees afternoon shift workflow prioritizes daily repair orders assigns tasks to technicians/apprentices and ensures shift goals and turnarounds are met smoothly.
Maintenance & Repair Operations: Performs complex diagnostics routine maintenance and emergency repairs on heavy vehicles and fleet equipment.
System Diagnostics & Electronics: Diagnoses and repairs electrical hydraulic suspension brake and air systems using advanced fleet software and electronic tools.
Apprentice Mentorship & Safety Coaching: Serves as a technical guide and mentor to apprentices promoting safe work habits proper tool usage and quality workmanship.
Safety & Compliance: Enforces all shop safety protocols and conducts regular work area inspections to ensure full compliance with corporate and OHSA standards.
Documentation & Work Orders: Uses fleet maintenance software to update work orders track repair times manage parts consumption and provide handover notes for the incoming shift.
Emergency Support & Estimates: Evaluates repair times/costs for major jobs and coordinates or conducts service calls for off-site emergency breakdowns as required.
Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
