What you will be doing

As a member of the School of Health & Human Services you will:

• Deliver theoretical practical and land informed learning grounded in Indigenous knowledge systems and pedagogies;
• Design strategies to implement curriculum guided by Metuaptmumk (All-around seeing) engaging multiple dimensions of knowing (relational experiential systemic spiritual and clinical;
• Responsible for program delivery by ensuring alignment with professional standards for cultural safety and advancing relational approaches to nursing education while supporting students through relational mentorship and clinical supervision that recognizes the whole person emotional mental physical and spiritual throughout their learning journey;
• Participate in a faculty circle model where teaching reflection and program development are shared through relational accountability;
• Design and facilitate creative multimodal learning experiences (e.g storytelling reflection land-based learning simulation circle processes and clinical practice) for diverse learners including preparation instruction assessment and evaluation using flexible teaching approaches and technologies (e.g. Brightspace and classroom tools);
• Play a critical role in on-site clinical supervision evaluation and coordination across multiple clinical and laboratory settings. Work schedules are determined based on clinical placement and lab supervision requirements and availability. Therefore this position requires a high degree of flexibility including regular and routine evening and weekend (both Saturday and Sunday) work and extended shifts as determined by the College to be operationally necessary to support program delivery and student learning outcomes.
• Support clinical placements with a focus on relational care systems awareness and culturally grounded practice while ensuring health and safety standards are upheld across all learning environments including labs.
• Maintain current knowledge of industry practices and continuously develop teaching expertise with delivery that may include in-person online and blended formats.
• Contributing to ongoing program development research and evaluation.
• Carry our additional responsibilities including academic and career advising committee participation program promotion supporting and monitoring work placements liaising with industry partners representing the College and upholding NSCC policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

• The minimum educational qualification for this position is an Accredited Nursing Program Diploma Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing. You are currently registered or are eligible for registration as an LPN RN or NP with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) and are in good standing;
• You have a minimum of five years (full-time equivalent) of recent clinical experience in nursing
• Experience in Indigenous health or working alongside Indigenous communities in meaningful and accountable ways would be considered an asset;
• You possess demonstrated experience or deep commitment to Indigenous pedagogy including relational approaches to teaching and learning ceremony and land-based practices;
• Understanding of Mikmaw language culture worldview and ways of knowing would be an asset;
• Knowledge of the strengths experiences and systemic contexts shaping Indigenous students including the ongoing impacts of colonization and Indigenous resurgence with the capacity to engage thoughtfully and respectfully in learning environments;
• Capacity for systems-aware and relational practice including understanding of colonial structures Indigenous social determinants of health and the ability to support students through trauma-informed and strength-based approaches in diverse learning environments;
• Ideally you have experience delivering education to adult learners including curriculum design facilitation assessment and constructive feedback with demonstrated ability to design learning that supports diverse ways of knowing;
• Experience liaising with industry and applying WHMIS Occupational Health and Safety and occupation-specific safety practices;
• Proficiency with computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite Brightspace and email;
• Proficiency with multimedia technologies and digital platforms to support engaging online and blended learning including the ability to design and deliver courses using a learning management system (e.g. Brightspace) to foster communicate with students and collaborative learning community. Candidates without prior online teaching experience must be willing to participate in training.

As a condition of employment Faculty at NSCC must complete a part-time adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status all probationary full or part-time Faculty of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Faculty whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.

As a condition of employment for this position successful applicants are required to provide verification of their Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) licence a record of their up-to-date immunizations (including COVID-19) along with a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) with Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Child Abuse Register (CAR) search prior to starting employment. Any cost incurred in obtaining these will be at the applicants expense. Candidates will not be discriminated against on the basis of their background check.
