The Calibration Engineer is an individual contributor with recognized technical expertise responsible for delivering calibration activities across the full vehicle development lifecycle including requirements definition calibration strategy development implementation validation and issue resolution.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the development ownership and validation of engine calibration parameter datasets ensuring robust system performance regulatory compliance and vehicle readiness. This role involves a combination of in-vehicle and laboratory data collection large-scale data analysis and performance verification on both bench and vehicle supporting the execution of high-quality controls and diagnostic calibrations.
This position requires a high degree of technical judgment independent execution and cross-functional collaboration with travel expectations of approximately 30 days per year.
What you will do (responsibilities):
- Develop and execute engine calibration plans applying sound engineering judgment and technical expertise to achieve program objectives.
Independently create optimize and validate calibration datasets to meet performance emissions drivability durability and regulatory targets.
Lead diagnosis and resolution of calibration-related issues using structured problem-solving methods and drive corrective actions.
Plan and support test bench and vehicle testing activities including setup execution data analysis and recommendation of next steps with minimal supervision.
Participate in development trips and test campaigns collecting and interpreting data to refine calibrations and support vehicle maturity.
Investigate and resolve issues identified through manufacturing durability testing validation activities or customer feedback escalating when needed and ensuring robust follow-through.
Collaborate effectively with Product Development Teams and other cross-functional stakeholders to improve calibration quality timing and execution.
Develop apply and continuously improve post-processing and analysis tools to ensure data integrity and enable efficient calibration decisions.
Use model-based and data-driven methods to complement physical testing and improve development efficiency.
Design and execute targeted experiments to identify calibration improvement opportunities balancing competing attributes such as performance emissions fuel economy and drivability.
Identify system vulnerabilities and technical risks support mitigation plans and track corrective actions through implementation and validation.
Contribute to the advancement of calibration processes test methods and best practices helping drive continuous improvement across programs.
Stay current with industry trends emerging technologies and regulatory developments incorporating relevant learnings into calibration strategies.
Your skills and abilities (required qualifications):
Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Electrical Mechatronics or similar)
Experience with calibration and development tools such as INCA Vehicle Spy CRETA MDA and/or MATLAB/Simulink.
Familiarity with government regulations certification requirements and drive cycles including FTP US06 WLTP and RDE.
Advanced in English with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to work independently and build effective working relationships across local and global teams.
Proficient in computer-based test measurement and data acquisition systems.
Demonstrated commitment to innovation technical excellence and continuous improvement.
Strong experience in data acquisition empirical data analysis and interpretation of test results to support calibration optimization and model correlation.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality results against program timing and customer deliverables.
Experience in vehicle/powertrain calibration and correlated area.
Experience with programming or scripting languages such as Visual Basic C C or Python.
Hands-on experience in debugging and troubleshooting software and/or hardware-related issues.
Valid drivers license.
