Job Summary

Spatial Planner (Medior) Hybrid (Ghent Region)
Role Overview

We are looking for a Spatial Planner to support the development of regional spatial planning initiatives focused on climate adaptation water management and sustainable land use transformation. You will contribute to the preparation of regional spatial implementation plans and collaborate with public authorities and stakeholders to deliver long-term solutions for environmental and spatial challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the preparation and development of regional spatial implementation plans.
  • Support projects related to climate adaptation water management and sustainable spatial development.
  • Conduct spatial analyses and scenario development to assess impacts on local and regional interventions.
  • Prepare clear spatial visualizations maps and presentations using GIS tools.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement and participation processes.
  • Collaborate with municipalities public agencies and other project partners.
  • Translate complex spatial challenges into practical planning solutions.
Requirements
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Spatial Planning Urban Planning Geography Landscape Architecture Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar spatial planning role.
  • Experience with QGIS and spatial analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of spatial planning regulations and policy frameworks in Flanders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage stakeholder relationships and coordinate planning processes.
  • Fluent Dutch (native or bilingual level).
Nice to Have
  • Experience with design-based research and spatial design methodologies.
  • Negotiation and consensus-building experience with multiple stakeholders.
  • Previous experience working within the public sector.
  • Experience with climate adaptation or environmental planning projects.

  • Location: Ghent region Belgium
  • Work Model: Hybrid
  • Work Schedule: 80% or 100% negotiable
  • Long-term assignment with possible extension.
