PostgreSQL Database Administrator / Backend Engineer

We are seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator to support a large-scale biometric identification platform and contribute to the modernization of critical IT systems. The role combines database administration backend development and infrastructure automation within a secure and high-availability environment.

Role Overview

You will be responsible for designing managing securing and optimizing PostgreSQL database environments while supporting backend application development and data integration initiatives. Working within a multidisciplinary team you will help build scalable reliable and secure database solutions that support mission-critical operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer maintain and optimize PostgreSQL databases.
• Perform backup restore monitoring and performance tuning activities.
• Design database architectures and implement data synchronization mechanisms.
• Develop and maintain data integration solutions.
• Support software development projects through custom database solutions.
• Integrate Python backend applications with PostgreSQL databases.
• Design implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab.
• Develop database standards procedures and technical documentation.
• Ensure database security availability reliability and scalability.
• Support the implementation and integration of additional database technologies when required.
• Contribute to monitoring and logging solutions using the Elastic Stack (optional).

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science Information Technology or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong experience administering PostgreSQL databases in production environments.
• Experience with backend development using Python.
• Strong knowledge of data integration and database design principles.
• Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines with GitLab.
• Solid understanding of Linux environments and system administration.
• Experience working with RESTful web services.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch Logstash Kibana).
• Knowledge of Ansible Docker Kubernetes and OpenShift.
• Experience with NoSQL databases key-value stores document databases or vector databases.
• Experience with infrastructure automation and DevOps practices.

Languages

• Fluent French or Dutch.
• Passive knowledge of the second national language is required; bilingual proficiency is highly desirable.
• Good command of English.

Work Environment

Contract Duration

• Initial contract until December 2026 with the possibility of extension.
