Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicines is recruiting for an Experienced Scientist-Neurodegeneration Neuroinflammation and Translational Biology to contribute to a 3-year VLAIO-funded research program focused on neurodegenerative disease mechanisms and neuroinflammation in Alzheimers disease. This position will be located in located in Beerse Belgium. This is a temporary full-time position with a duration of 3 years.

Learn more at successful candidate will play a leading experimental role in the development and application of advanced humanized in vitro and in vivo models to study Alzheimers disease in support of the VLAIO project. The candidate will be spending 90% of the time on lab work with a strong emphasis on complex iPSC-derived multi-cellular systems and humanized in vivo models. This role requires deep technical expertise and hands-on work scientific independence and the ability to translate biological questions into robust experimental strategies.

Key responsibilities:

• Independently design execute and interpret complex in vitro experiments using human iPSC-derived neurons astrocytes and microglia as well as in vivo experiments with minimal supervision or assistance. Drive experimental troubleshooting and continuous optimization of the model systems.

• Apply a range of molecular cellular and biochemical techniques such as immunohistochemistry biochemical readouts (e.g. ELISA protein analysis) and sample preparation for downstream omics analyses (e.g. bulk and single cell transcriptomics proteomics).

• Ensuring high-quality experimental execution and data generation including accurate documentation and data recording in compliance with ELN standards and timely reporting and communication of experimental results to supervisor project teams and senior colleagues.

• Perform general literature and research searches in support of data analysis and interpretation.

• Collaborates effectively with cross-department team members and external collaborators to timely deliver on goals and objectives.

• Understand and apply Johnson & Johnsons Credo and Leadership Imperatives in day-to-day interactions with the team.

Education Qualifications & Experience:

• Masters degree combined with demonstrated relevant experience and 6 years of work experience in pharma or a PhD in Neuroscience may be considered.

• Extensive hands-on experience with human iPSC-derived systems including neurons astrocytes and microglia is a must.

• In vivo experience with rodent models is a plus. FELASA B certification is a minimal requirement FELASA C certification is preferred.

• Proven track record in neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation.

• Experience in a range of molecular cellular and biochemical techniques for in vitro and ex vivo sample processing such as immunohistochemistry biochemical readouts (e.g. ELISA protein analysis MSD Luminex etc) and sample preparation for downstream omics analyses (e.g. bulk and single cell transcriptomics proteomics)

• Experience with single-cell sequencing approaches (e.g. scRNA-seq single-nuclei RNA-seq) and downstream data interpretation is preferred.

• Experience with live cell imaging (e.g. IncuCyte) and high content imaging is desired.

• Expert in assay development optimization and trouble shooting.

• Experience integrating human in vitro and in vivo models in a translational research setting.
