About this role:
As a Technical Officer you will provide high-quality technical support across the Schools teaching and research programs with a focus on Exercise and Nutrition disciplines. You will work closely with academic staff and students to ensure practical classes and laboratory activities are delivered safely efficiently and to a high standard.
This role involves coordinating support across teams and locations liaising with external suppliers and contributing to community engagement activities. You will also apply strong organisational problem-solving and decision-making skills to support the effective delivery of teaching and research outcomes.
As a Technical Officer you will:
- Provide high-level technical support for teaching laboratories including the setup maintenance troubleshooting and pack-down of practical classes assessments equipment and facilities.
- Coordinate laboratory materials equipment chemicals biologicals and consumables to ensure the effective delivery of practical teaching activities and a high standard of service to staff and students.
- Deliver technical guidance safety advice and practical demonstrations to students and staff supporting the safe and effective use of laboratory equipment and resources.
- Promote and maintain compliance with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) infection control and laboratory safety standards including the handling storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships manage competing priorities maintain accurate records and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and service outcomes.
To be successful youll have:
- Degree in Exercise Sciences Sports Science Biological Science Food/Nutrition Science or an equivalent combination of relevant education training and experience.
- Experience providing advice or support services within a professional or technical environment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build effective working relationships.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply procedures coordinate work and manage competing priorities.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a commitment to contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience working in a laboratory setting ideally within a tertiary education environment.
- Good knowledge of WH&S (Workplace Health and Safety) principles and an understanding of the requirements for safety when working with biological and chemical hazards.
