About the role
We are looking for a site based Superintendent Closure Legacy to safely optimise social environmental and financial outcomes by managing the closed Argyle mine site in the Monitoring & Maintenance (M&M) phase.
Reporting to the Manager Closure Legacy the Superintendent Closure Legacy will lead the safe delivery of the Argyle Monitoring and Maintenance (M&M) Plan. It oversees safety leadership regulatory compliance and contractor management. The role will lead a small hands-on team where everyone contributes across a broad range of tasks requiring flexibility and a willingness to step into different responsibilities as needed. You will play an important role in maintaining relationships with Traditional Owners with demonstrated cultural competency to do so.
The role includes the statutory Site Senior Executive appointment (training available) preparation of HSE reports and visible leadership when engaging with Traditional Owners regulators communities and other stakeholders.
Working an 8/6 roster this is site-based role where you will either Drive-In-Drive-Out from the East Kimberley Fly-In-Fly-Out from Broome or Fly-In-Fly-Out from Perth. This role will be Perth based for the first three months on a 5/2 roster with ad-hoc travel to site.
Key accountabilities include:
Responsibility for M&M procurement processes including preparation of scopes of work supplier selection contractor management and project close out
Provide leadership and strategic oversight to multi-disciplinary teams including internal and external contracting partners to ensure work is completed safely on time and within budget.
Be the statutory Site Senior Executive by appointment
Lead field programs implementing HSE programs/controls contractor onboarding supervision and overall management data collection engage external stakeholders and regulators and support delivery of closure scopes of work
Managing maintenance activities and environmental monitoring
Responsibility for the safe and reliable operation of the camp in the M&M phase as well as accommodation planning and management
Work with Traditional Owners Businesses to build capability
Ensure compliance with Rio Tinto Closure and HSE&C Standards by leading assurance activities developing and implementing action plans and maintaining corporate tracking and reporting systems
Deliver internal and external regulatory HSE reports.
About you
You demonstrate strong safety leadership with a background in environmental science (or related) and hands-on experience in contractor management. You enjoy a varied role working as part of a small team that takes ownership of evolving site-based tasks. Success in this role requires you to be flexible and willing to contribute across a small multiskilled team with a demonstrated safety leadership strong understanding of environmental performance and experience managing contractors.
Your skills and experience also include:
A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
Experience in leading teams and managing people ideally within mining sector operations
Degree in environmental science or similar (highly regarded)
Cultural capability and skills to engage with Traditional Owners
Strong interpersonal skills including coaching
Strong report writing skills
Resilience and a dynamic approach to problem solving and improvement with a hands-on approach
Western Australian C-Class drivers licence
You will also display eagerness to obtain the technical licences and certificates not limited to Senior Site Executive (SSE) Forklift licence and Senior First Aid certificate.

Where youll be working
Based at the former Argyle Diamond Mine in the remote East Kimberley a landscape rich in culture and natural beauty set on the traditional lands of the Mirriwoong and Gija peoples. Once one of the worlds most significant diamond producers especially famed for its rare pink and red diamonds Argyle is now in its final year of Closure and is transition to the Monitoring & Maintenance phase.
