Coonalpyn Hotel is seeking an experienced and motivated Chef / Cook to join our team on a full-time basis. We are looking for someone who is reliable hardworking and capable of preparing high-quality meals in a busy hotel kitchen environment.
This role is suitable for a skilled kitchen professional who can prepare cook and present a variety of dishes maintain food quality standards and contribute to the smooth daily operation of the kitchen.
About the Role
As a Chef / Cook you will be responsible for preparing and cooking meals according to menu requirements maintaining food quality and presentation assisting with menu planning managing stock and supplies and ensuring all food safety and hygiene procedures are followed.
You will work closely with management and other kitchen staff to deliver consistent meals and support the efficient running of the kitchen during regular service peak periods and functions.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare season and cook a variety of meals including meat poultry seafood vegetables sauces soups salads and other dishes in accordance with menu standards.
Plan prepare and assist with menu items daily specials and seasonal dishes.
Prepare ingredients by washing cutting trimming portioning marinating and organising food items before service.
Cook food using a range of methods including grilling frying roasting baking steaming boiling and sautéing.
Check food quality taste temperature portion size and presentation before meals are served.
Ensure meals are prepared and delivered in a timely manner during lunch dinner and busy service periods.
Operate and maintain commercial kitchen equipment including ovens grills fryers stoves mixers slicers and other kitchen appliances.
Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering food ingredients and kitchen supplies.
Receive inspect and correctly store food deliveries in line with food safety requirements.
Maintain correct food storage labelling stock rotation and waste control procedures.
Ensure kitchen areas benches equipment utensils and storage areas are kept clean organised and sanitised.
Follow all food safety hygiene workplace health and safety procedures.
Assist with controlling food costs reducing wastage and improving kitchen efficiency.
Work cooperatively with other kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service.
Assist in training guiding and supporting junior kitchen staff when required.
Maintain a professional clean and safe working environment at all times.
Requirements
Previous experience as a Chef Cook or similar role in a hotel pub restaurant café or commercial kitchen.
Ability to prepare and cook a wide range of meals from raw ingredients.
Strong knowledge of food preparation cooking methods and kitchen operations.
Understanding of food safety hygiene and workplace health and safety standards.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Good time management and organisational skills.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to food quality.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Reliable punctual and willing to work flexible hours including evenings weekends and public holidays.
