The Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation (CESE) leads enables and delivers high-quality (robust trusted and innovative) insight evidence and policy to make a difference for all learners.
CESE has over 400 staff across two pillars CESE Policy and Evidence with teams being Schools Policy Strategic Analysis and Research Evaluation and Effectiveness and the Enrolment Trends and Transitions Taskforce and the CESE Data and Insights pillar with teams being Data Reform Education Statistics and Measurement Skills Pathways and Insights Data Analytics and Insights and Data Analytics and Performance (Early Childhood). The Office of CESE team supports the entire directorate.

About the role:
This role supports data collection analysis reporting business intelligence and data engineering activities for early childhood education programs and policies helping inform strategic and operational decision-making. It involves designing and improving data collection processes building and maintaining data architectures developing and optimising ETL processes and scalable data pipelines developing and maintaining dashboards reports automated workflows and data integration solutions while ensuring compliance with governance standards.
The role also focuses on translating complex data and technical information into clear actionable insights and recommendations for a range of stakeholders including senior executives and non-technical audiences while building strong stakeholder relationships and identifying opportunities to improve processes data quality and continuous improvement outcomes.

About You:
- Strong expertise in R Python SQL relational databases and data platforms including Azure Data Lake Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Fabric with experience in data engineering analysis reporting and automation.
- Proficient in Power BI and Microsoft Power Platform tools (Power Automate and Power Apps) to develop dashboards streamline processes and deliver clear actionable insights.
- Excellent communication stakeholder engagement and project management skills with experience managing complex projects and presenting outcomes to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- High attention to detail and commitment to ethical data practices including privacy governance and data sovereignty principles.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Departments Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Departments Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential requirements of the role:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline including computer science engineering statistics and mathematics or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and/or experience.
- Hold a valid clearance to work with children (Working with Children Check) for paid employment.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
