New York Central Mutual Fire Insurance, or NYCM to its friends and policyholders, sells property/casualty insurance in upstate New York. With offices in Amsterdam, Buffalo, Edmeston, and Sherburne, the company specializes in personal auto coverage but also offers homeowners and umbrella coverage, and commercial policies for small businesses. More than 1,000 independent agents sell the companies' products. Some 524,000 policyholders own the mutual firm. NYCM is still managed by the family of VanNess DeMar Robinson, who founded the company in 1899.
