Implementation and Quality of the Division

1. Ensure outcome-focused quality production of visual and written content for defined donor segments and audiences reflecting programme objectives and evidence of impact.
2. Contribute to quality and programme aligned website / online platforms updates posted regularly; find innovative methods to attract more visitors to online channels.
3. Write press releases under general supervision of CD.
4. Use all relevant new media opportunities to proactively disseminate the work of IR.
5. Responding promptly and efficiently to media enquiries
6. To help projects staff of IR in the coverage dissemination of information about their projects
7. Write, proof, edit articles and field work case studies for a range of media
8. To contacting journalists and other media actors in order to gain coverage for IR campaigns and projects.
9. To maintain the archives of news on IR & video material
10. Plan specific media events, press conferences and photo calls to gain coverage for IR issues
11. Contribute to Media division short to medium term strategic planning & implementation process.
12. Be trained on emergency communications. Ensure effective and rapid provision of disaster response content for effective internal communications and marketing appeals that mobilise support during emergencies
13. Coordinate the design and production of IR awareness/education materials (including brochures, posters, signage, etc.) from conception to printing. Advise on materials from conception stage (from programme design onwards). Work with appropriate third parties (designers, illustrators, production houses) to outsource this work when necessary.
14. Ensures the preparation of visual tools (for the rightsholders/children) such as pamphlet, poster, banner, cartoons, animations, audio and video productions for awareness raising for projects
15. To coordinate the production of various promotional videos on behalf of IR.

1. Ensure the promotional material meets IR Quality Standards and Codes of Conduct and child protection.

Management

1. To co-ordinate the dissemination of information from IR.
2. Manage the IR media database
3. Maintain the archives of news on IR & video material from HQ.
4. All other reasonable tasks as directed by the CD.

Networking and Media

1. Cultivate links with journalists and other key media persons.
2. Contacting journalists and other media actors in order to gain coverage for IR campaigns, projects and other key news areas
3. Follow up and closely coordinate with IRW and partners.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL

Experience

• Experience of working with International NGOs in developing countries.
• Depth understanding of national and international development issues in particular in relation to community development.
• Experience of developing links with INGOs, Government agencies, Institutional donors and other stakeholders.

Skills

• Good interpersonal skills including the ability to listen, sensitivity to other peoples’ views and perspectives, and conflict resolution.
• Strategic leadership skills
• Good organisational skills and a practical knowledge of support service management
• The capacity to develop and maintain an understanding of and be sympathetic to the social, cultural and political context of the post
• Ability to represent, liaise and negotiate at different levels (national, provincial and local).
• Excellent media skills
• Knowledge/familiarity/expertise in programme areas: e.g. Community Development, Microfinance, etc
• An ability to work under pressure with limited support.
• Knowledge/familiarity with country/region.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
