Introduction

Established under the auspices of the American Embassy in 2001 the Jerusalem American International School (JAIS) is a branch of The Walworth Barbour American International School in Israel (WBAIS). It is an MSA and locally accredited fully independent co-educational Pre-K - 9 international school offering an American program in an International setting.

JAIS is a nurturing community caring for students from the early years to Grade 9. With both our international and local students we strive to build bridges across Jerusalem offering broad perspectives and opportunities for growth exploration and learning. The campus is situated in a residential area of Jerusalem in the Goldstein youth village where we have access to communal facilities such as the swimming pool and gym.

JAIS is a small warm school where every student is included valued and set up to thrive.

Teachers are dedicated to student success attentive to their students physical and emotional well-being passionate about student learning and excited about working within a dynamic diverse community. Classroom practices emphasize active collaborative learning; team-building activities; the application of technology to authentic learning experiences; differentiated instruction and student achievement.



Position Objectives

Jerusalem American International School seeks an experienced student-centered and dynamic Middle School teacher. Responsibilities will include an agreed mixture of subjects in the areas of 9th Grade Biology Middle School Science and STEM/STEAM. Guided by our vision to nurture a diverse learning community of reflective learners who are growing into compassionate and responsible citizens we seek educators with a strong understanding of middle school philosophy adolescent development and in addition experience working with 9th-grade students.

The ideal candidate delivers high-quality inquiry-based instruction aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Instruction that promotes critical thinking problem-solving collaboration and real-world application through STEM/STEAM learning experiences including appropriate use of technology aligned with ISTE standards.

In addition the candidate will be our Ed tech Integrator teacher who will lead and support the school technology program to maximize student learning and instructional impact.

We are seeking an educator who embraces best pedagogical practices values interdisciplinary learning and fosters students curiosity and addition to excellence in teaching the successful candidate actively contributes to the life and culture of the school collaborates with colleagues and engages positively with students families and the international school community.



Essential Responsibilities

The MS Science/ Biology/ STEAM Teacher will:

  • Have ability to develop and teach a middle school science curriculum based on Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
  • Have ability to teach 9th-grade Biology
  • Ability to mentor students in an Advisory/ Homebase
  • Ability to differentiate for different levels of learners and emotional/ behavioral needs
  • Ability to include learners with varying degrees of English language proficiency
  • Lead teachers school-wide in the development and implementation of NGSS
  • Collaborate with students teachers parents and leadership
  • Develop and maintain a successful science classroom learning environment
  • Plan and supervise FIRST FLL Challenge robotics program*
  • Oversee student participation in a Science Fair*
  • Other duties as required

* These will be in collaboration with faculty on the AIS campus.



As the EdTech Integration Teacher the candidate will:

  • Collaborate with teachers to plan and co-teach lessons integrating digital literacy and citizenship aligned to ISTE standards.
  • Support consistent high-quality technology use across all departments.
  • Coach staff to strengthen digital instruction and proficiency with core school systems (e.g. Seesaw Google Classroom PowerSchool) through modeling and individualized support.
  • Teach technology exploratory/elective courses.
  • Help lead staff AI training and deliver AI literacy instruction for students.
  • Partner with the Technology Director and Computer Science Teacher to develop a CS scope and sequence that includes AI and data literacy.



Qualifications

Bachelors Degree (Masters preferred)

Current and valid teaching license

Minimum three years of teaching experience in a similar role



Position Expectations

To excel in this position an individual must successfully perform each essential responsibility in addition to the following:

  • Classroom technology be familiar with educational technology such as GSuite and online

learning management systems.

  • Classroom facilitation effectively orchestrate a class with high learning impact by

incorporating best practices into the classroom.

  • Curriculum development contribute to the development and documentation of curricular

documents (unit plans assessments standards documentation etc.).

  • Communication skills proactively communicate to integrate all community stakeholders

into the learning process.

  • Ability to work fulltime and after hours on enrichment programs

Other Responsibilities

Guide practice in accordance with the JAIS Mission Vision & Profile of a Learner:

  • Build meaningful relationships and dialogue with children in a warm and respectful manner that instills joy in learning and nurtures critical thinking independence and a positive self-concept.
  • Participate in team meetings and in ongoing professional development. Take initiative to seek out opportunities to build on knowledge.
  • Work alongside other early years staff to implement a child-centered program including the preparation organization and supervision of stimulating learning experiences and environments.
  • Plan and facilitate learning experiences and investigations for groups of children in studio(s) and in other group settings.
  • Work collaboratively to collect display and disseminate documentation of childrens learning (careful observational notes and intentional photos videos and recordings).
  • Work collaboratively with Teacher(s) to reflect on documentation develop curriculum support student learning needs following learning experiences and writing Learning Journey reports for each trimester.
  • Supervise recess.
  • Share in communicating with parents regarding individual student progress and/or specific behaviors.
  • Design deliver and evaluate professional development that builds faculty and staff capacity and enthusiasm.
  • Support parent understanding of digital practices through workshops info sessions newsletters and meetings.
  • Connect educators with local and global experts and tech support to enhance learning with technology.
  • Coordinate with the WBAIS technology team (EY campus) to align initiatives across campuses.
  • Create and maintain tutorials and guides for students staff and parents.



Priority will be given to candidates who have experience:

  • Implementing the Next Generation Science Standards
  • Familiarity with 3-D Assessments utilizing the NGSS framework
  • Serving as an Advisor/pastoral care role
  • Utilizing the Responsive Classroom approach
  • Working with students with varying levels of English language fluency
  • Collaborating in a co-teaching model
  • Integrating subjects in a project-based or service learning model
  • Teaching in an international school setting
