Role Overview
We are recruiting an experienced Backend Developer on behalf of a technology company specializing in cloud-based geospatial and traffic management platforms. You will design build and maintain robust server-side systems APIs and data pipelines that power real-time urban mobility and roadwork management solutions used by municipalities and infrastructure operators across North America.
About the Company
Our client is a North American SaaS technology company providing an integrated platform for urban mobility and roadwork management. Their software is used by municipalities road authorities and infrastructure operators to coordinate field operations manage traffic disruptions and communicate in real time.
Their platform is powered by modern GIS technologies cloud infrastructure and real-time data integrations. The engineering team is small collaborative and highly technical working on products that directly impact urban infrastructure management. Backend systems must handle large geospatial datasets real-time event streams and complex multi-tenant architectures.
Key Responsibilities
- Design develop and maintain scalable backend services and REST APIs
- Build and optimize data models and queries for relational databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL)
- Integrate third-party APIs and external data sources into backend systems
- Implement and maintain authentication and authorization mechanisms
- Collaborate closely with frontend developers to define and deliver API contracts
- Support deployment pipelines and contribute to CI/CD processes
- Monitor application performance identify bottlenecks and implement improvements
- Write clean well-tested and well-documented code; participate in code reviews
Qualifications & Experience
- 48 years of professional backend development experience
- Strong proficiency in Java or (or equivalent backend language)
- Solid experience designing and building REST APIs
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and/or MySQL
- Familiarity with Git and version control best practices
- Comfortable working in a Linux environment
- Experience in Agile/Scrum environments
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
Nice to Have
- Experience with Firebase or NoSQL databases
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS Azure or GCP)
- Familiarity with geospatial data or GIS systems
- Knowledge of data security best practices (encryption token-based auth)
- French language skills
