About the Role
The Marine Underwriting Manager will lead the development profitability and technical governance of the organisations Marine portfolio. Based in Riyadh the role is responsible for shaping underwriting strategy managing portfolio performance and ensuring that risks are assessed and priced in line with the companys risk appetite and commercial objectives.
The successful candidate will work closely with brokers clients and reinsurers to support sustainable portfolio growth while maintaining strong underwriting discipline and compliance with regulatory and internal standards. This role also plays a key leadership function in mentoring underwriters and strengthening technical capability across the Marine underwriting team.

1. Portfolio Strategy & Underwriting Leadership
- Develop and implement the Marine underwriting strategy aligned with the companys overall business objectives.
- Define underwriting philosophy pricing approach and portfolio risk appetite for Marine lines.
- Lead the execution of portfolio growth initiatives while maintaining underwriting discipline and profitability.
2. Portfolio Performance Management
- Monitor underwriting performance loss ratios and portfolio profitability against agreed targets.
- Oversee accumulation monitoring exposure management and cycle management across the Marine book.
- Produce portfolio forecasts and performance insights to support strategic planning and decision making.
3. Risk Assessment & Technical Underwriting
- Evaluate complex Marine risks and provide underwriting decisions within delegated authority levels.
- Review non-standard cases and technical referrals to ensure sound underwriting judgement.
- Ensure underwriting guidelines policy wording standards and pricing models are consistently applied.
4. Reinsurance & Market Engagement
- Liaise with reinsurers and internal reinsurance teams to structure effective reinsurance support for the Marine portfolio.
- Optimise reinsurance capacity coverage terms and pricing to support profitable growth.
- Maintain strong relationships with brokers and market partners to enhance underwriting opportunities.
5. Product Development & Market Insight
- Support the development and enhancement of Marine products based on portfolio performance and market demand.
- Monitor legal developments emerging risks and industry trends affecting Marine underwriting.
- Contribute market intelligence and insights to support sales planning and customer proposition development.
6. Team Leadership & Technical Development
- Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior underwriters and underwriting staff.
- Strengthen underwriting standards knowledge sharing and technical capability within the team.
- Contribute to building a high-performance underwriting culture focused on accountability and expertise.
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Insurance Business Administration Finance or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years underwriting experience in Marine insurance.
- Professional insurance qualification such as ACII or equivalent is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of Marine underwriting principles reinsurance structures and portfolio management.
- Native Saudi Arabic and fluent written and spoken English.
