On behalf of our client we are seeking a General Manager who will be responsible for providing full P&L leadership for a re-established construction company.
Overview of the Position
The role will re-establish a construction company as a disciplined profitable and credible contractor in the Tanzanian market.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a structured 1236 month revival strategy including revenue targets contractor registration class and capital allocation priorities.
- Define market focus (residential commercial institutional selective public works) and pricing strategy aligned to risk appetite.
- Rebuild brand credibility with consultants developers banks and regulatory bodies.
- Lead pre qualification efforts and ensure compliance documentation readiness.
- Personally drive acquisition of anchor projects in the first 612 months.
- Establish a structured tender review committee and bid approval thresholds.
- Approve pricing models ensuring risk-adjusted margins.
- Monitor bid-to-win ratio and continuously refine targeting strategy.
- Establish project governance framework (weekly cost reports progress dashboards risk registers).
- Implement performance review cadence across projects.
- Approve subcontractor selection and supplier framework agreements.
- Ensure HSE compliance culture is embedded from inception.
- Own profitability working capital management and cost discipline.
- Approve cash flow forecasts and capital expenditure.
- Ensure job-costing discipline is institutionalised.
- Monitor receivables and enforce credit control mechanisms.
- Build lean but competent leadership bench.
- Define performance-based compensation structure.
- Create an accountability culture focused on margin and delivery excellence.
Requirements
- BSc Civil Engineering / Construction Management
- MBA (preferred)
- 1015 years construction leadership experience
- ERB registration preferred
