Job Summary:

Our client who is in the construction industry is seeking a Safety Officer to join their team. The Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring that all construction activities are conducted in compliance with Tanzanian occupational health and safety laws as well as the companys Health Safety and Environment (HSE) policies. The role involves implementing safety management systems conducting regular inspections and promoting a strong culture of safety at various project sites across Dar Es Salaam and Pwani regions. The ideal candidate is proactive detail-oriented and has strong knowledge of local and international safety standards.

Responsibilities:

Ensure full compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act 2003 (Cap. 297) and all relevant OSHA Tanzania regulations.

Conduct daily site safety inspections and promptly address any unsafe conditions or practices.

Verify that all workers and subcontractors possess valid OSHA medical fitness certificates and have completed required safety inductions.

Lead regular toolbox talks and site safety meetings to enhance safety awareness.

Supervise high-risk construction activities such as working at heights lifting operations confined spaces and electrical works ensuring proper control measures are in place.

Monitor the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) in line with OSHA requirements.

Investigate accidents incidents and near misses prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions.

Maintain comprehensive safety documentation including inspection reports risk assessments and training records.

Coordinate emergency preparedness activities such as fire and evacuation drills.

Participate in internal and external safety audits and ensure timely implementation of recommendations.

Liaise with OSHA officers and ensure closure of identified non-conformities.

Promote a positive safety culture and ensure compliance with company HSE policies and Tanzanian statutory requirements.

Requirements

Diploma or Bachelors Degree in Occupational Health and Safety Environmental Science Civil Engineering or Construction Management.

Valid OSHA Certificate of Competence (Occupational Safety and Health Officer Course Levels I & II) issued by OSHA Tanzania.

Minimum 7 years experience as a Safety Officer on notable construction projects in Tanzania. Experience with International Firms with strict safety culture is an added advantage

Good knowledge of Tanzanian labour environmental and safety laws.

Familiar with international standards such as ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems).

Strong leadership reporting and communication skills in both English and Swahili.
