SUMMARY
Under direction of a physician credentialed to provide care in the Pediatric Emergency Department provides medical care to patients in the emergency department. Care may include performing complete histories and physical exams performing or ordering simple diagnostic tests prepare a diagnosis and implement treatment procedures for illnesses as well as emergency cases developing a working diagnosis to provide continuing medical care including daily examinations writing orders chart notes and discharge summaries
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
- Intense attention concentration good visual verbal hearing skills and attention to detail.
- Effectively interacts with a wide range of personality types and ages is necessary.
- Effectively interacts with diverse cultural backgrounds
EDUCATION
- NP must be a graduate from an accredited School with a Masters Degree.
- PA must be a graduate from an Accredited Physician Assistants Masters Degree program and a current valid registration to issue written or oral prescriptions or medication orders for controlled substances from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
LICENSES CERTIFICATIONS and/or REGISTRATIONS - Must have a current valid license authorizing practice in the expanded role and a current valid registration to issue written or oral prescriptions or medication orders for controlled substances from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
- PALS certification required.
EXPERIENCE
- Pediatric experience inpatient or outpatient.
- Since children are not little adults the NP/PA must understand the physiologic differences between children and adultshave a knowledge of pediatric disease management and pediatric developmental issues.
- 3 years of pediatric ED experience preferred.
