Job Description
MEDECINS SANS FRONTIERES (MSF) is a non-governmental medical humanitarian aid organization. MSF presently work in more than 60 countries providing assistance to population in distress, victims of natural or man-made disaster and victims of conflicts irrespective of race, religion, creed or political convictions.
Purpose of the position:
Providing nursing care, treatment and follow-up of patients, according to doctors’ prescriptions, protocols applied in service and universal hygiene standards/precautions, in order to ensure the quality and continuity of care for the targeted population
Accountabilities:
- Knowing, promoting, implementing and following up the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control, security rules and other protocols and procedures in the medical premises and ensuring high standards of hygiene of his/her working environment. Respecting medical secrets and confidentiality at all time.
- Organizing and carrying out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, and assisting during consultations, and other medical procedures. Participating in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary.
- Maintain high standard of infection control rules in the sterilization room in accordance with MSF protocols.
- Carry out and monitor administrative procedures and documents (fill in patient’s files, forms, consumptions, statistics, registers, health files, etc.), ensuring an appropriate written/oral handover, and reporting any problematic situations and cases that may arise.
- Participate in data collection and keeping doctors/supervisors informed.
- Participate in the department-related pharmacy and medical equipment quality control, maintenance and monitoring of rules and regulations.
- Overlook chain of supply from log and pharmacy by informing the supervisor on items running low.
- Dispense medication to patients according to medical prescription, following given rules and regulations and ensuring complete comprehension of the patient, in order to ensure correct treatment.
- Perform quick medical screening and assessment to new and existing patients on medical or psychological problems and initiate medical care according to the triage category; inform the clinician on timely manner.
- Prioritize and attend to emergency patients received at the triage office and passes them through to the Multi-disciplinary-team responsible for emergencies.
- Increase efficiency of triage process in order to reduce the waiting time for emergency patients by identifying emergency patients and directing them to the MDT responsible.
- Help to establish and implement client flow with the receptionists and medical team.
- On request, assist Medical Doctors with medical procedures and examinations in emergency situations
- Collect and perform patients' lab tests and vaccinate patients with the prescribed vaccines.
- Be in charge of the emergency rooms medical equipment and update the emergency trolley upon request
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor Degree in Nursing
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of previous experience in general nursing and ER;
- previous experience in other NGO’s will be an asset
- (volunteer) work with migrants is an advantage.
Languages: Fluent in English and Arabic (verbal and written)
Knowledge: Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel)
