Job Summary:
The Medical Support Assistant (MSA) serves as a primary point of contact for patients handling intake and indexing of health and administrative information. Utilizing advanced PC and Vista applications the MSA is integral in scheduling appointments verifying provider orders against national scheduling guidelines and ensuring the smooth operation of the healthcare delivery process.
Primary Job Duties:
- Efficiently schedules cancels and reschedules patient appointments and consults ensuring optimal clinic workflow.
- Diligently enters noshow information and manages the electronic wait list to prioritize patient care.
- Assists in preparing clinics for visits and monitors appointments to guarantee that patient care standards are met.
- Responsible for verifying and updating patient demographics and insurance information ensuring accurate patient records.
- Handles all aspects of emergency and nonemergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals coordinating seamless patient care transitions.
- Performs eligibility checks copay assessments and preauthorization tasks to facilitate patient access to healthcare services.
- Contributes to quality improvement meetings and staff meetings as required supporting the mission of providing highquality veteran healthcare.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Experience: Six months of clerical office customer service or other administrative work indicating the ability to acquire necessary skills.
- Education: One year above high school OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Skills: Effective communication ability to interact courteously computer proficiency basic medical terminology knowledge.
Physical Requirements: Primarily sedentary requiring sitting for extended periods. May involve some walking standing and carrying of light items.
