Who are Kimberley Community Legal Services
We are an independent notforprofit community legal service one of Australias leading and largest remote civil law practices that predominantly supports aboriginal communities. A multidisciplinary service offering legal social work and financial counselling we provide a free service to vulnerable community members experiencing disadvantage. We have offices in rra and Broome with regular outreach to urban and remote towns and communities in the beautiful Kimberley region.
THE ROLE
We are looking for a Community Education Coordinator(s) (CEC) to join our multidisciplinary team in Broome or rra WA. You will be working to ensure our multipractice services are strongly connected to the communities in which we operate especially remote Aboriginal communities as someone who is passionate about community development and education. You will develop coordinate and deliver Community Legal Education (CLE) and Community Education (CE) and capacitybuilding services to those communities by enhancing awareness and understanding about the law and nonlegal issues how to identify prevent and deal with problems and awareness of the help available from legal and nonlegal support services.
A typical day might entail:
- Developing and executing the annual CLE and CE plan.
- Preparing reports about CLE/CE activities for our funders/board.
- Developing and maintaining positive stakeholder relationships and creating CLE/CE opportunities.
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to arrange activities and events.
- Updating and improving KCLS presentation materials and resources.
- Engaging with the community through multiple communication mediums.
- Delivering workshops and training to the community.
WE ARE SEARCHING FOR SOMEONE WHO CAN MEET MOST OF THE FOLLOWING:
- Close working knowledge of Aboriginal culture and communities in the Kimberley and the ability to rapidly build trust within those communities.
- Critical interpersonal and empathetic communication skills including with clients and reflecting on our practice.
- Sound organisational skills and ability to manage workload and competing demands while meeting deadlines and working effectively as part of a team.
- Understanding and commitment to principles of social justice and to working effectively with Aboriginal people.
- Experience or aptitude in developing and delivering social change and/or education programs ideally in an Aboriginal context.
- Working knowledge of office systems and ideally some experience with basic print online design programs and computer databases.
- Personal resilience adaptability and ability to meet the challenges of remote service delivery.
Successful applicants will need to provide references a recent WA Police Clearance current Working with Children s Check and confirm their working rights in Australia.
FURTHER DESIRABLE CRITERIA
- Current driver s license valid for use in WA.
- Experience in a community legal setting and/or communitybased organisation.
