Float Captains

Rsponsibilties;

• Ensure the safe navigation and mechanical operation of the vessel in which assigned.
• Maintain the safety and well-being of the crew and passengers, as well as timely execution of the assigned mission.
• Properly mobilize and demobilize vessels before and after each cruise, including cleaning, systems checks, general condition inspection, and stocking provisions as required.
• Perform regular vessel maintenance, preventative maintenance, and light repairs such as boat checks, fueling, vessel logs, fluid changes, cleaning, and more.
• Travel as needed (typically 2 – 3 days per trip) in the Great Lakes region to work with GLRC and partner organizations.
• Ensure all procedures and engineering practices comply with the current and appropriate regulating authorities such as the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR); the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC); and the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).
• Exercise prudent judgment at all times. Be willing, able, and capable of responding to shipboard emergencies and actively participate in drills.
