Job Summary

A Visceral Surgeon specializes in diagnosing and surgically treating diseases and disorders of the abdominal organs including the digestive tract liver pancreas spleen and endocrine glands. The role involves performing complex open and minimally invasive surgeries to treat conditions such as gastrointestinal cancers hernias inflammatory bowel diseases and hepatobiliary disorders. Working collaboratively with gastroenterologists oncologists anesthesiologists and surgical teams the Visceral Surgeon ensures the highest standards of patientcentered surgical care while adhering to the latest advancements in surgical techniques and patient safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

Perform surgical procedures on abdominal organs including:

Gastrointestinal Surgery (esophagectomy gastrectomy colectomy small bowel resection)

• Hepatobiliary Surgery (liver resection cholecystectomy bile duct repair)

• Pancreatic Surgery (Whipple procedure distal pancreatectomy enucleation of tumors)

• Hernia Repair (inguinal femoral umbilical and incisional hernias – open and laparoscopic)

• Minimally Invasive Surgery (Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgery) for digestive tract disorders

• Endocrine Surgery (thyroidectomy adrenalectomy)

• Diagnose and manage complex visceral conditions including gastrointestinal cancers inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) gallbladder disease and hepatobiliary tumors.

• Conduct preoperative assessments postoperative monitoring and longterm patient followups to ensure optimal recovery and minimal complications.

• Utilize advanced imaging techniques (CT MRI Ultrasound Endoscopy) for diagnosis and surgical planning.

• Perform and assist in emergency surgeries including bowel perforations acute pancreatitis complications and traumarelated abdominal injuries.

• Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including gastroenterologists oncologists endocrinologists and ICU teams to provide comprehensive patient care.

• Maintain accurate medical records surgical documentation and patient case histories in compliance with healthcare regulations.

• Adhere to hospital infection control policies surgical safety protocols and international standards for patient care and surgical best practices.

• Participate in research clinical trials and continuous medical education to stay updated with the latest advancements in visceral surgery.

• Train and mentor junior surgeons medical residents and healthcare professionals in advanced surgical techniques.

Qualifications & Skills Required

Education & Certifications:

• Medical Degree (MBBS MD or equivalent).
• Board Certification / Fellowship in Visceral Surgery or General Surgery.
• Specialized Training in Digestive Surgery Hepatobiliary Surgery or Minimally Invasive Surgery.

Technical & Surgical Skills:

• Expertise in open and minimally invasive abdominal surgery (laparoscopic & robotic techniques).
• Proficiency in hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery and gastrointestinal oncology procedures.
• Strong knowledge of endoscopic and ultrasoundguided surgical techniques.
• Ability to manage complex visceral disorders trauma surgery and emergency surgical cases.

Experience:

• 5 years of experience as a Visceral Surgeon in a hospital trauma center or specialized surgical unit.
• Experience handling highrisk surgical cases and working in highvolume surgical departments.
• Prior experience in roboticassisted surgery is a plus.
