Job Summary:
The Writing & Academic Engagement Coordinator supports student success through writing development academic engagement and Learning Commons programming. Approximately half of the role focuses on coordinating writing support services including tutoring tutor development workshops faculty partnerships and writing-related initiatives. The remaining responsibilities support outreach programming student engagement and daily operations within the Stafford Library and Learning Commons. Working closely with faculty tutors library staff and campus partners the Coordinator helps create a welcoming student-centered environment that connects students with academic resources and opportunities for success.
Essential Functions:
The Writing & Academic Engagement Coordinator supports student success through writing development academic engagement and Learning Commons programming. Essential Functions:
- Writing Services
- Coordinate and enhance writing support services for students across disciplines locations and instructional modalities.
- Provide writing consultations and support students in developing effective writing research revision and citation skills.
- Recruit train mentor and support peer and professional writing tutors.
- Develop tutor training aligned with College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA) standards academic integrity expectations and best practices in writing support.
- Create workshops resources and programming that address student writing needs.
- Partner with faculty to develop course-specific and embedded writing-support opportunities.
- Support responsible use of generative AI and emerging writing technologies while promoting student learning and academic integrity.
- Assess service utilization student feedback and emerging needs to guide continuous improvement.
- Academic Engagement & Learning Commons
- Help foster a welcoming student-centered Learning Commons environment.
- Promote Library and Learning Commons services through outreach presentations events workshops and communications.
- Develop programs that encourage student engagement with academic resources and support services.
- Build collaborative partnerships with faculty staff and student organizations.
- Assist students in connecting with appropriate academic and campus resources.
- Support daily Library and Learning Commons operations student employees and service delivery.
- Maintain records and assessment data related to programs outreach and student engagement.
- Participate in broader student success initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in English Writing Communication Education or a related field.
- Experience providing writing tutoring instruction or writing-center support.
- Strong written verbal presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop educational programs workshops or training initiatives.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with students faculty and staff.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to learn and utilize educational technologies tutoring systems and emerging AI tools.
- Willingness to work occasional evening or nontraditional hours.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in a related field.
- Experience working in a writing center tutoring center learning commons library or academic-success environment.
- Experience recruiting training and supervising tutors or student employees.
- Familiarity with CRLA standards and tutor-development programs.
- Experience supporting online and asynchronous learners.
- Experience developing outreach programs workshops faculty partnerships or student engagement initiatives.
- Experience with academic integrity education accessibility support and generative AI technologies.
- Familiarity with academic library services and resources.
About the Stafford Library and Learning Commons:
The Stafford Library and Learning Commons integrates library services tutoring writing support and academic engagement within a dynamic student-centered environment. Writing services represent the Colleges most utilized area of tutoring serving students across Columbia College campuses and Columbia College Global. The Writing & Academic Engagement Coordinator will play a key role in expanding writing support strengthening faculty partnerships and enhancing student engagement across the Library and Learning Commons.
