About the Worship Pastor
The Worship Pastor at Mountaintop Church is deeply valued not just as a talented musician but as a passionate spiritual shepherd and developer of people. Working hand-in-hand with the Creative & Digital Pastor and the Sunday programming team this leader brings heart and vision to the weekend crafting engaging Christ-centered worship experiences. Because Mountaintops worship ministry is beautifully driven by dedicated volunteers a core part of this role is highly relationalconsistently caring for equipping and empowering team members to discover and develop their own unique gifts. While they serve as the primary voice and face of weekend worship they intentionally share the stage to build up other leaders and foster a culture of shared leadership. Ultimately the Worship Pastor uses music art and creativity to draw people into Gods presence ensuring that everyone who walks through the doors feels truly seen welcomed and invited to follow Jesus.
The Worship Pastors responsibilities include:
Sunday Morning Worship Services
- Serve as a key member of the Sunday programming team contributing to the creative and spiritual planning of weekly services
- Provide both visible (on-stage) and behind-the-scenes leadership to ensure high-quality and meaningful worship experiences
- Prepare and distribute weekly resources for the worship team including the use of digital tools such as Playback Ableton and vocal part tracks
- Offer consistent volunteer care and support
- Coordinate and assist with weekly stage design setup and teardown as needed
College/Young Adults Worship
- Ensure that our college and young adults ministry is receiving the support they need to run a monthly worship night and other worship experiences as needed.
- Provide support to the Associate Worship Pastor as they work closely with any interns or other staff and/or volunteers.
Student Worship (Middle & High School)
- Ensure that our student ministries are receiving the support they need to run both middle school and high school worship services.
- Provide support to the Associate Worship Pastor as they work closely with any interns or other staff and/or volunteers.
- Be willing to temporarily step in for any unavoidable and last minute needs this ministry might have for worship.
Special Events & Tech/Worship Support
- Adapt to various roles as needed including audio/visual support stage management or musical leadership to ensure the success of these events.
- Offer technical or worship support for occasional church-wide or ministry-specific special events.
What you bring
The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Worship Pastor:
Education and Experience
- Bachelors Degree preferred
- 5 or more years of relevant experience in a church setting
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Vocal and Instrumental Proficiency: Strong performance abilities in vocals and an instrument preferably guitar or keyboard.
- Worship Software Expertise: Proficiency with digital tools and software used for modern worship including Ableton Playback DAWs (like Logic or Protools) Planning Center and ProPresenter.
- Service Programming: The ability to plan and execute tightly timed weekend services with clearly defined transitions without making it feel rigid or losing flow.
- Volunteer Recruitment: Skills in actively recruiting and building a large volunteer-driven worship team.
- Team Development: The capability to spiritually lead train and equip volunteer musicians and vocalists to improve their worship talents.
- Staff Management: The ability to oversee support and direct the staff members reporting to this position and help them succeed in their area of ministry.
- Musical Collaboration: The capacity to intentionally share the stage blending with and handing off leadership to empower other vocalists and musicians.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: The ability to work seamlessly alongside the broader programming team and collaborate well within that space.
- Song Selection: Knowledge of how to curate worship sets that are theologically sound emotionally resonant for the congregation and accessible to people new to church.
- Logistics and Stage Management: The ability to coordinate and assist with hands-on technical needs including weekly stage design setup and teardown.
- Event Production Support: The capacity to provide audio/visual support stage management or musical leadership for special church-wide events.
- Systems Development: Strong problem-solving abilities to create refine and improve the operational systems and processes within the worship ministry.
- Communication & Organization: Strong general organizational and communication skills needed to manage schedules distribute vocal/band resources and lead rehearsals.
