ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP ORLINE OF AUTHORITY:

Reports directly to Building Principals

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters preferred.
  • MA DESE License: Foreign Language / World Language Spanish (5-12) required; Supervisor/Director preferred.
  • Ability to relate well with high school students and middle/high school staff.

JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: World Language Department Head / 6-12

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent Building Principals

JOB GOAL: To support world language needs of 6-12 students staff and administration

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

SUPERVISORY

  • Guide coach &/or counsel staff
  • Prepare and conduct staff meetings
  • Mentor or support all assigned staff members (middle school world language teachers high school world language teachers)
  • Convene and chair monthly 6-12 articulation meetings with middle school staff; follow up on recommendations
  • Evaluate 9-12 staff

ADMINISTRATION

  • Inventory and maintain supplies including texts & software
  • Coordinate programs activities instruction with other departments and/or across grade levels
  • Complete and submit budget for department
  • Write course descriptions for student course books
  • Screen applications and interview potential hires
  • Coordinate curriculum changes/updates with state Frameworks as directed by Assistant Superintendent
  • Organize interdisciplinary activities
  • Attend curriculum conferences
  • Approve staff conferences
  • Represent the department at school-level meetings with administrators
  • Assess the effectiveness of new and existing instructional programs
  • Monitor and/or research existing and new programs or texts software & hardware

COMMUNICATION

  • Guide &/or advise parents
  • Guide &/or advise students
  • Liaison between department members
  • Liaison with administration
  • Coordinate with other department heads/coordinators
  • Prepare and provide Special Education staff with necessary materials
  • Assist in conducting student/parent orientations

GUIDANCE

  • Attend IEP/504 meetings as requested
  • Coordinate student tutoring material requests as requested
  • Consult with school and building leadership on curriculum sequencing adaptation or modification

EVALUATION

  • Observe and evaluate assigned 9-12 personnel in consultation with building administrators
  • Guide and direct instructional practices

OTHER

  • Organize and follow through on subject specific activities at various grade levels
  • Plan staff professional development with Assistant Superintendent
  • Organize field trips
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by principals

QUALIFICATIONS: MA DESE Licensure: Foreign Language / World Language Spanish (5-12) required; Supervisor/Director preferred.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Teaching load: up to 3 blocks every 2 days; 182 days plus 13 days

EVALUATION: Per Teachers Contract.
