Web and Cloud Systems Administrator

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Digital Solutions the Web and Cloud Systems Administrator helps shape and advance the universitys web and cloud strategy. The incumbent partners with business and IT leaders to understand solution requirements architect system designs and lead solution development to achieve strategic outcomes.

The Web and Cloud Systems Administrator independently identifies analyzes and develops solutions to complex technical requirements supporting strategic campus-wide applications and San José State Universitys online presence. Responsibilities include analysis design configuration administration testing and ongoing support of web-based and cloud applications including SaaS collaboration and identity management tools.

The incumbent also serves as a technical resource and consultant for the university website and cloud infrastructure helping ensure the availability reliability security usability and accessibility compliance of critical digital services and applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Support all aspects of the SJSU website manage support queues and providing support for Incidents.
• Manage and implement all Standard Normal and Emergency Changes including new sites accounts and similar requests along with backend design and operational changes.
• Develop test and implement web applications custom code and user interface elements following standard web technologies and practices.
• Provide application support administration and configuration to assigned applications including Google Workspace Zoom Okta Pope Tech CMS and others.
• Monitor application usage and availability and proactively log tickets with vendors to prevent service outages.
• Ensure content and application security and compliance with university and department standards
• Evaluate recommend and implement new and enhanced features across assigned enterprise applications.
• Implement new modernization designs and solutions that enhance existing Web architecture providing improved reliability performance and capacity for Web applications.
• Implement cloud solutions using Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure as part of the Web Architecture.
• Maintain documentation of physical and logical Web architecture and administrative scripts.
• Develop and implement monitoring strategy and use of Nagios or other monitoring tools.
• Evaluate emerging technologies cloud services and industry trends to make recommendations.
• Maintain and update administrative scripts to automate routine system operations deployments and database tasks.
• Lead campus wide IT projects and internal IT projects as assigned providing structure plans design and tracking.
• Develop and maintain online help resources and documentation including training material. Deliver training to groups or individually as needed.
• Provide consultation and guidance to content editors on accessibility requirements and solutions.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

• Advanced knowledge of modern website and web application design tools scripting languages and HTML including responsive and user-centered design practices
• Advanced knowledge of application design SaaS and cloud concepts authentication services (LDAP SAML and OKTA) tools database concepts
• Advanced knowledge of Modern Campus CMS Pope Tech Zoom Event Calendar Spectrio/Industry Weapon and Digital Signs and Google Workspace
• Application Administration at a level comparable to the achievement of a certification on Google Workspace including configuration security and account management
• Strong working knowledge of other assigned applications including Campus Blogs Confluence Lucidchart Ad Astra OneCampus Apache & URL redirect rules and others to be assigned
• Advanced knowledge of configuration account management and administration of all assigned applications.
• Strong knowledge of IT processes including ITIL Support
• Applied knowledge of Accessibility requirements and solutions including Section 508
• Applied knowledge of Google Analytics and Search including Search Engine Optimization
• Advanced project management skills with the ability to manage multiple large and/or complex projects including project design and planning; ongoing resource materials and time management; and implementation.
• Ability to think critically and analytically analyze technical problems utilizing problem solving techniques interpret and evaluate results and develop recommendations and solutions understanding impact and implication of alternative solutions
• Ability to produce clear well-organized technical documentation system guides and support materials
• Ability to translate requirements ideas and suggestions into full web page designs
• Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and effectively
• Ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with both IT and Business groups

Required Qualifications

• Equivalent to a bachelors degree in a related field. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Four (4) years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• A masters degree in computer science Information Technology or related field preferred.
• Five (5) years Web/Cloud administration support or development and Website design development implementation and operation preferably with Modern Campus CMS; Experience designing and implementing cloud solutions using Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure; and managing IT projects implementing SaaS applications in an Enterprise environment.

Classification: Systems Administrator III
CSU Salary Range: $7284/month - $10611/month (Step 1 Step 20)
