Water Meter Service Technician

Job Summary
Job Overview:
The Meter Service Technician installs inspects tests repairs and maintains residential and commercial water meters to ensure accurate utility billing and reliable water service. This position performs meter-related field operations responds to customer service requests and assists in maintaining the integrity of the Citys water distribution system.
SPECIFIC TASKS DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Utilize the Beacon software system to monitor meter performance analyze system data and support maintenance activities.
Install maintain repair replace and remove water meters up to 1-inch in size.
Repair and maintain meter-related infrastructure including meter boxes lids risers and associated components.
Perform daily utility service activities including service connections disconnections meter re-reads leak investigations and customer assistance.
Complete service disconnections and restorations in accordance with departmental procedures.
Accurately complete work orders maintenance records and related documentation.
Respond to customer inquiries and provide information regarding meter operations and utility services.
Assist with emergency utility operations as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
WORKER REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Previous experience in water utility operations meter services plumbing construction or a related field preferred.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.
Ability to kneel bend stoop crouch and work in confined spaces.
Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
Ability to read write and communicate effectively in English; bilingual Spanish skills are desirable.
Working knowledge of hand tools including pipe wrenches valve wrenches channel-lock pliers and similar equipment.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to provide courteous and professional customer service.
Reliable transportation to and from office.
Licenses & Certifications
Valid Louisiana drivers license required.
Ability to obtain any required certifications related to water utility operations if applicable.
Essential Physical Functions: Frequent walking standing bending kneeling lifting carrying pushing pulling climbing and working in outdoor environments. Regular exposure to traffic uneven terrain weather conditions and utility construction sites.
