What Youll Do

Under the direction of laboratory management and supervision will perform the following:

Ensure that all waste is properly managed segregated packaged and disposed in accordance with all site-specific requirements internal procedures and federal regulations in the Analytical Chemistry Organization (9995 & Union Valley facilities).
Maintain ACO oversight of SAP Waste database ensuring accurate and up-to-date tracking of all waste movements.
Ensure the timely and complete execution of SAP Waste Disposal Requests (DRs) for all ACO waste.
Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the characterization packaging and disposal of excess chemicals (Lab Packing) in compliance with federal regulations site requirements and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations for hazardous and radioactive materials.
Characterizes ACO waste for proper handling storage and disposal applying extensive knowledge of laboratory data and waste characterization protocols.
Manage the handling and disposal of classified waste ensuring operational security.
Lead the coordination and modification of waste management procedures as needed to optimize waste stream management and align with best practices within the Analytical Chemistry Organization Waste Management Group.
Provide expert waste management support to various internal groups including laboratory operations maintenance and facility modernization initiatives.
Conduct and document thorough inspections of waste storage areas to ensure full compliance with all applicable requirements and regulations.
Serve as a primary point of contact and strategic liaison with waste generators waste engineers and alternate waste certification officials to ensure all aspects of waste packaging and disposal are effectively addressed.
Manage the physical packaging and preparation of waste from various waste streams in compliance with site-specific requirements and supporting organizational directives.
Coordinate all waste movements with all corresponding parties according to site-requirements and procedures.
Acts as a key resource for waste-related inquiries ensuring seamless integration of compliance and waste activities with ongoing laboratory work.
Facilitate the accurate entry of waste sampling data into LIMS as required for waste sampling activities.

Minimum Job Requirements

Bachelors degree: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 7 to 10 years.
OR Masters degree: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 7 to 10 years.
OR 12 or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting.
In addition the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e. High School diploma; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).

Preferred Job Requirements

Experience in packaging labeling storing transporting and disposal of radiological and hazardous waste at DOE facilities.
Working knowledge and understanding in the use of equipment systems and/or processes in the area of analytical chemistry laboratory technology/terminology.
Knowledgeable in Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) and Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) federal regulations.
Knowledgeable with Department of Transportation regulations for packing and shipping radiological and hazardous waste.
Knowledgeable with Y-12 procedures and DOE orders involving hazardous and radioactive waste.
Experience with Y-12 SAP Waste database for waste containers.
Experience with Y-12 NNSS and commercial TSDF disposal pathways.
Proficient in time management skills.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712) which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.

This position may be categorized as a designated position identified by 10 C.F.R. Part 709 requiring successful completion of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation that may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
