Volunteers play a critical role in advancing this mission by strengthening programs expanding community engagement and increasing organizational capacity.
Position Summary
Upper Valley Haven is seeking a highly organized relationship-focused Volunteer Services Coordinator to lead and strengthen the organizations volunteer program. This position is responsible for recruiting onboarding scheduling training supporting recognizing and retaining volunteers across multiple Haven programs
The Volunteer Services Coordinator serves as both a hands-on coordinator and a systems-minded program leader. Working collaboratively with staff community partners schools businesses and volunteers this role develops and improves volunteer systems creates meaningful service opportunities tracks program effectiveness and helps ensure volunteers have a positive and mission-centered experience.
The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator who enjoys building relationships managing multiple priorities solving problems and creating systems that support organizational effectiveness and community engagement.
Compensation
Salary: $58000$62000 annually depending on experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment & Stewardship
- Recruit onboard place and retain individual and group volunteers.
- Respond to volunteer inquiries and guide prospective volunteers through the onboarding process.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive volunteer experience that encourages long-term engagement.
- Coordinate volunteer appreciation and recognition efforts.
Volunteer Program Coordination
- Manage volunteer scheduling assignments communications and ongoing support.
- Ensure volunteer placements align with organizational needs and volunteer interests.
- Coordinate volunteer participation across multiple Haven programs and events.
- Provide hands-on support for volunteer activities orientations and group service projects.
Program Development & Systems Improvement
- Develop and improve volunteer recruitment training engagement and retention systems.
- Create and refine volunteer processes tools and documentation that support consistency and efficiency.
- Collaborate with staff to identify new volunteer opportunities and strengthen existing programs.
- Evaluate volunteer utilization and recommend improvements that enhance organizational impact.
Training & Community Engagement
- Facilitate volunteer orientations and develop training materials that communicate Havens mission values and expectations.
- Represent the Haven through presentations outreach events tabling opportunities and community partnerships.
- Build relationships with schools civic organizations faith communities businesses and other community partners.
Data Management & Reporting
- Maintain accurate volunteer records schedules and participation data.
- Track volunteer hours engagement trends and program outcomes.
- Prepare reports and analyses that support planning decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Utilize volunteer management software and other systems to ensure effective program administration.

Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in nonprofit management human services communications public administration education human resources or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Three or more years of experience in volunteer coordination community engagement nonprofit operations program administration or a related field.
- Experience coordinating recruitment onboarding training scheduling and engagement activities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience using volunteer management systems databases or similar software tools preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move throughout Haven facilities and community locations.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person by phone and electronically.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to travel locally for community meetings volunteer events and outreach activities.
Work Environment & Schedule
Upper Valley Haven sits on a four-building campus about a mile northwest of the center of White River Junction. Office space within the campus will be provided. A fifth off-campus shelter will open in the fall. The Havens business hours run from 8:30 to 4:30 while Haven shelters are staffed 24/7.
This is a full-time position that generally operates during regular business hours Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend hours are required to support volunteer groups community events trainings and organizational activities. A hybrid work schedule may be available based on organizational and program needs.
