Purpose of Position

The Visiting Student Intern will receive mentored research training and support ongoing projects in the Asthana Lab in the UND Department of Chemistry. The position will contribute to computational and theoretical chemistry research including heavy-element electronic structure quantum chemistry method development and quantum-algorithm-related research as assigned by the supervisor.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Run and document computational chemistry or quantum chemistry calculations under supervisor guidance including preparing inputs checking outputs and organizing result files.
  • Assist with testing adapting and documenting scripts notebooks or workflows used for electronic-structure quantum-algorithm or data-analysis projects.
  • Analyze research results prepare figures/tables and summarize findings for lab discussions internal reports presentations or manuscripts.
  • Conduct literature review and maintain organized research notes references datasets and reproducible records consistent with lab policy.
  • Participate in group meetings training compliance activities and other related research-support tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Requirements
  • Completed a 3-year/4-year B.S./. degree in Chemistry or a closely related field
  • Ability to work 40 hours/week beginning September 1 2026 for a temporary appointment consistent with UND temporary-position limits.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework or research experience in physical chemistry quantum chemistry computational chemistry or chemical physics
  • Experience with Python Linux/Unix Git spreadsheets plotting or scientific computing
  • Familiarity with molecular modeling electronic-structure software high-performance computing or literature review in chemistry.
