The department of Modern Languages (ML) at Bentley University seeks outstanding candidates for a one-semester Visiting Lecturer position in Spanish and French for Spring 2027 with possibilities of renewal.

In addition to a variety of language electives the ML Department offers the Language Culture and Business (LCB) major as well as language minors (Chinese French Italian Spanish) and Spanish for Business. The Department actively engages with students outside the classroom through the Center for Language and International Collaboration (CLIC). We also work closely with the Office of International Education.

Job Description Summary

The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to world language teaching possess native or near-native fluency in Spanish and French and hold at a minimum a masters degree. We seek individuals committed to innovative language and culture teaching practices. Lecturers in the Modern Languages Department regularly have an assignment of four (4) courses per semester typically teaching beginning and intermediate language courses in addition to a service component such as course coordination or other departmental services related to the position.

We seek a candidate whose main focus is language pedagogy or a closely related field and will emphasize applying the latest methods and practices in L2 pedagogy Heritage Learners and SLA (such as task-based activities) to coordinate and enhance our LCB major.

Criteria for selection include a) an ability to teach Spanish and French b) proven effective teaching of both languages at all levels especially beginning and intermediate and c) native or near-native linguistic proficiency in both Spanish and French.

Minimum Qualifications

M.A. or Ph.D. in French or Spanish by the time of appointment. Candidates should possess a minimum of two years of university-level teaching experience and demonstrate a deep commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. Candidates must be eager to work in a department with a tradition of teamwork teaching advising and service. Additionally candidates must have native or near-native proficiency in Spanish French and English and be willing to teach in any of those languages.
