Job Summary:

The English Department at Marist University invites applications for a one year Visiting Lecturer of English with a proven ability to teach First Year Writing and Core Literature courses to begin in August 2026. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a mix of ENG 120 (Writing or College) and Core Literature classes. A strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduates is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

A masters degree in English or related field is required. Teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness is required.

Essential Functions:

The teaching load will be a 4-4 course load. Faculty are expected to hold office hours and attend departmental and school meetings.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in English or Rhet/Comp is desired. Teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness is required.

About the Department/School:

The English Department includes 18 full-time faculty and offers three Major Concentrations (Literature Writing and Theatre) and four Minors (Creative Writing Professional Writing Theatre and Literature). Many English majors are also enrolled in our five-year Masters Degree in Teaching program. The department contributes substantially to our interdisciplinary programs in Africana Studies American Studies Global Studies Latin American & Caribbean Studies and Womens Gender and Sexuality Studies. The English Department is housed in the School of Liberal Arts which includes departments in history modern languages & cultures philosophy & religious studies and political science. The School of Liberal Arts is also home to the Hudson River Valley Institute.
