Visiting Lecturer in Biological Anthropology

The Department of Anthropology in the School of Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a full-time Visiting Lecturer in Biological Anthropology to start in August 2026. The department is nationally recognized for excellence in teaching research and community engagement with a strong commitment to undergraduate education. The Department of Anthropology offers both major and minor programs and fosters a collaborative and supportive community among students and faculty. It provides a diverse and rigorous curriculum featuring intellectually engaging courses for both undergraduate and graduate students along with hands-on and personalized academic advising.

This is a visiting lecturer position with a 9-month contract. Employer benefits are included. Responsibilities for this position consist of a full-time equivalent teaching load as well as student advising and service.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Classroom Instruction and Curriculum Responsibilities

Duties equivalent to a fulltime teaching load which the university defines as at least 12 credit-hours of classroom teaching in each semester and which may include a combination of teaching and other departmental service and advising as appropriate.

Conduct administrative work to prepare execute and evaluate student performance in the classroom.

Work in concert with the Anthropology Departments faculty and staff to support curriculum development and implementation in the pursuit of educational excellence.

Engage and contribute to pedagogical activities which contribute to the knowledge of the department the school and the scholarly community at large.

Participate in compliance activities necessary for accreditation and assessment of the school and programs.

Attend and participate in faculty meetings departmental events and other meetings as needed.

Serve on committees and projects as assigned.
