Job Description:
The English Department at Fairfield University invites applications for one full-time Visiting Assistant Professor to teach in the Core Writing Program and to work in areas related to our Writing Across the Curriculum/Writing in the Disciplines program starting September 1 2026 pending budget approval. Having recently completed revision of its Core Fairfield Universitys exciting new writing curriculum requires students to complete four writing classes including Introduction to Rhetoric and Composition (a hybrid of WAC and Writing about Writing approaches).
VAP positions typically carry a 4/4 course load in Core Writing. Successful candidates will be committed to excellence in teaching and academic service and will demonstrate thorough knowledge of the field.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Evidence of exemplary teaching of college composition courses is required.
Understanding of contemporary best practices in the teaching of rhetoric and composition and Writing Across the Curriculum is a must.
A Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition is preferred. ABDs are also considered. To be considered MA- and MFA-holding candidates must bring substantial experience in disciplinary approaches to teaching first-year composition.
Salary is commensurate with highest degree earned and is competitive.
