Job Summary
Position Summary
The Vision Controls Engineer II will serve as the subject matter expert for all machine vision applications across manufacturing operations. This individual will utilize extensive technical knowledge hands-on experience and problem-solving capabilities to evaluate design develop install and support advanced vision systems for automated manufacturing environments.
The engineer will lead projects from initial concept development through implementation startup training and long-term plant support. This role requires strong expertise in machine vision technologies PLC programming automation systems and emerging AI/machine learning applications related to industrial vision systems.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Follow all health safety environmental and LOTO procedures and protocols
Collaborate effectively across engineering operations maintenance and production teams
Lead projects from technical specification through startup and commissioning support
Design develop and implement machine vision control systems and automation solutions
Select appropriate vision hardware and software platforms for various manufacturing applications
Develop and debug PLC software and HMI applications
Program and integrate vision systems using industry-standard controls platforms
Support and troubleshoot existing vision systems at manufacturing facilities globally
Create system documentation training materials and operational procedures
Develop contingency and disaster recovery plans for critical vision systems
Train plant personnel on operation troubleshooting and maintenance of installed systems
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement innovative automation technologies
Support equipment installation launch activities and production startup efforts
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of experience in controls engineering machine vision engineering or industrial automation
Strong experience with:
RSLogix5000
Studio5000
FactoryTalk View Studio
Hands-on experience with:
Cognex vision systems
Keyence vision systems
Experience programming and troubleshooting PLC-based automation systems
C or C programming capabilities
Understanding of AI and machine learning concepts related to industrial automation or vision applications
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines
Strong analytical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and cross-functional teamwork abilities
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in fast-paced manufacturing environments
Willingness to travel globally up to 30 50%
Ability to support off-shift installations and production launches as needed
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within automotive or Tier 1 manufacturing environments
Experience with robotic integration including Fanuc ABB or KUKA
Knowledge of industrial networking protocols such as Ethernet/IP and Profinet
Experience supporting automated assembly weld or inspection systems
Exposure to smart camera technologies and advanced vision inspection systems
