About the Role:
Everest is seeking a seasoned and strategic Vice President Credit Risk to join the Enterprise Risk Management Team. This role will be responsible for establishing and leading a best-in-class enterprise credit risk framework providing independent oversight and challenge across underwriting investment reinsurance and other credit-sensitive exposures throughout the organization.
Reporting to the SVP of Financial Risk the VP of Credit Risk will serve as Everests senior subject matter expert on credit risk helping shape risk appetite capital allocation portfolio management and strategic decision-making. The role requires a unique blend of insurance expertise credit risk management portfolio analytics governance and executive engagement. The successful candidate will possess deep expertise in Property & Casualty underwriting-related credit exposures including Surety Trade Credit Mortgage Structured Credit and Large Deductible programs while also overseeing broader credit risks arising from investments reinsurance counterparties fronting arrangements and premium receivables.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Leadership
Serve as a key member of the ERM Leadership Team contributing to the overall risk strategy and governance of the organization.
Develop and execute a comprehensive enterprise-wide vision for credit risk management.
Act as the primary advisor to senior management on emerging credit risks portfolio exposures and risk mitigation strategies.
Represent Credit Risk in executive committees risk governance forums and interactions with rating agencies and regulators.
Credit Risk Governance & Oversight
Establish and chair the Group Credit Risk Committee ensuring effective executive oversight of credit exposures across the enterprise.
Develop policies standards limits and governance practices supporting a consistent approach to credit risk management.
Deliver regular reporting and insightful analysis to executive leadership and risk committees.
Underwriting Credit Risk
Provide oversight and independent challenge of underwriting-related credit exposures including:
Surety
Trade Credit
Mortgage Insurance
Structured Credit
Large Deductible Programs
Evaluate portfolio quality underwriting concentrations emerging risks and aggregate exposures across business lines.
Develop consistent methodologies for measuring and monitoring underwriting credit risk globally.
Investment & Counterparty Credit Risk
Oversee enterprise exposure to investment credit risk including spread migration and default risk.
Provide oversight of reinsurance counterparty risk and fronting-related exposures.
Assess and monitor premium receivables and other material credit obligations across the group.
Partner with Investments Reinsurance Underwriting Finance and Actuarial teams to ensure effective risk identification and management.
Portfolio Management & Analytics
Establish robust portfolio monitoring capabilities across counterparties industries sectors and geographic regions.
Create enterprise-wide views of aggregate credit exposure and concentration risk.
Develop watchlists and escalation frameworks for high-risk or deteriorating exposures.
Leverage data and analytics to provide actionable insights that support strategic decision-making.
Risk Appetite & Framework Development
Design and implement a comprehensive credit risk framework integrated with Everests enterprise risk appetite.
Establish concentration limits and exposure management standards across both underwriting and investment portfolios.
Ensure consistent measurement and aggregation of credit risk across the organization.
Stress Testing & Emerging Risk Assessment
Lead enterprise credit stress testing and scenario analysis programs.
Evaluate portfolio resilience under adverse scenarios including:
Global Financial Crisis-type events
Sovereign downgrade or default scenarios
Industry-specific downturns
Credit market dislocations
Correlated counterparty failures
Translate stress-testing results into strategic risk management and capital planning insights.
Independent Review & Challenge
Provide independent assessment of credit quality underwriting assumptions ratings methodologies and portfolio construction.
Identify gaps between internal analysis external ratings and emerging market conditions.
Partner with business leaders to enhance risk-adjusted performance and portfolio quality while maintaining disciplined growth.
Qualifications
Required Experience
15 years of experience in credit risk enterprise risk management underwriting investments or related financial risk disciplines.
Deep expertise in P&C underwriting credit risk particularly within Surety Trade Credit Mortgage Structured Credit and/or Large Deductible portfolios.
Demonstrated success building or leading enterprise credit risk frameworks within a complex financial services or insurance organization.
Experience interacting with executive leadership boards regulators and rating agencies.
Strong understanding of portfolio management concentration risk stress testing and risk governance.
Preferred Experience
Investment credit risk management including spread migration and default risk.
Reinsurance counterparty and fronting risk oversight.
Premium receivables and collections-related credit risk.
Private credit markets and alternative credit investments.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of derivatives and associated credit and counterparty risks.
Familiarity with credit risk considerations embedded within regulatory and rating agency capital models including:
BSCR
AM Best
S&P Capital Model
RBC
Advanced degree in Finance Economics Risk Management Mathematics Actuarial Science or a related discipline.
CFA FRM PRM or similar professional designation preferred.
The base salary range for this position is $206000 - $260000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education experience qualifications and work location.
