Description of Work

The Division of Parks and Recreation is seeking a skilled Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician II to perform skilled small engine automotive and/or heavy equipment repair. Work includes the service inspection repair rebuild and diagnosis of a diverse number of mechanical systems for a variety of gasoline diesel and alternative powered engines/equipment. Work ranges from inspection and service to highly complex mechanical systems analysis using advanced diagnostic instruments and software; recurring and non-recurring work such as electrical suspension brake system repair and /or fitting and repairing more complex ancillary and specialized equipment. Conducting parts/systems failure analysis; and the calibration adjustment and operation of engine analyzers. Routinely determine materials techniques and tools to accomplish work assignments. Work assignments vary in complexity depending on the type of mechanical system and ancillary components/equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
Use and operate the various machines and instruments commonly found in an automotive and/or heavy equipment repair shop as well as a variety of specialized equipment specific to the area of assignment.
Diagnose and repair various automotive small engine and/or heavy equipment systems.
Manage on-site inventory including parts fuel and lubrication commodities.
Supervision of both skilled and unskilled workers and coordination of work with various contractors and vendors.

Recruitment Range: $39244 - $45998 Annually

Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed onthe vacancy announcement. Vacancy specific knowledge skills and abilities (KSAs) and/or management preferences are not. Applicants whopossessthe following are preferred:

  • Knowledge of estimating parts and labor hours needed for all aspects equipment and vehicle repair.

  • Thorough understanding of vehicle and equipment repair.

  • Experience in the automotive mechanical or equipment repair trade or an equivalent vocation.

  • Computer proficiency with the ability to utilize Workday Fiori and Microsoft Office programs.

  • Experience operating heavy equipment driving dump trucks trailering heavy equipment driving and operating a rollback tow truck.

  • Experience in welding and metal fabrication

Position/Physical Requirements:

  • Must have a valid NC Class A CDL license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
  • Must have the ability to follow verbal and written project directions and to work independently as needed.
  • Typical work schedule is (40 hrs. per week) Monday to Sunday 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM must be able to work evenings holidays and/or weekends when necessary. This schedule may vary and second shift may be needed
  • Must be able to perform strenuous physical work for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 100 lbs periodically and 50 lbs consistently with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive tasks and movements associated with trade work.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in variable weather conditions throughout the year with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma

AND

two (2) years of experience in the area of assignment

OR

a sufficient year-for- year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned;

an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I II III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82 subpart F.

Jordan Lake State Recreation Area averages over two million visitors per season and consists of nine recreation areas (approximately 6000 acres) three satellite areas (Bynum Mill Deep River and Lower Haw Natural Area) two-24-hour boat access areas 4- wastewater plants nine wastewater lagoons approximately 55 public restrooms 1100 campsites 11 group campsites 26 hike-in primitive campsites 11 picnic shelters. Jordan Lake Recreation Area also includes: 7 swimming areas11 boat ramps and many miles of hiking trails and an outdoor event center that accommodates 500 people.
