Job Summary

Scope of WorkThe Utility Safety Technician supports the implementation and enforcement of company and customer safety programs policies and procedures to reduce workplace incidents and injuries through proactive hazard identification employee engagement and safety compliance efforts. This position will primarily support substation underground utility overhead distribution and transmission and medium-voltage electrical construction projects including cable pulling terminations excavation activities civil work and steel Utility Safety Technician works closely with project management field supervision and craft personnel to ensure compliance with OSHA standards customer requirements and company safety expectations. Reports directly to the assigned Project Manager Utility Division with guidance from the Operations Manager. Regional travel is routine field safety inspections and audits on utility substation and underground electrical construction compliance with OSHA regulations company policies customer requirements and site-specific safety in developing and implementing accident prevention programs and project-specific safety in pre-task planning Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) daily safety meetings and safety hazardous conditions and unsafe work practices and work with project teams to implement corrective safe work practices related to:Medium-voltage cable pulling and terminationsUnderground utility constructionExcavation and trenching operationsOverhead distribution and transmissionSubstation construction and maintenanceElectrical hazard recognitionSteel erection activitiesConfined space entryVerify compliance with required permits and safe work and document incident injury near-miss and property damage investigations in a timely and administer Company Toolbox Talks and other safety in loss control efforts involving employee injuries equipment damage vehicle incidents and site safety records inspection reports training documentation and compliance files for internal and external with employee onboarding orientation and project-specific safety safety reports audit findings corrective action tracking logs and statistical reports as to safety concerns and provide guidance to supervisors and field during customer audits OSHA inspections and regulatory emergency response planning and incident preparedness the Safety Director with safety presentations company initiatives and special other duties as RequirementsEducationHigh school diploma GED or equivalent combination of education and of 5 years of safety experience supporting utility construction electrical construction industrial construction substations underground utilities or related supporting:Substation construction and maintenanceUnderground utility installationsOverhead distribution and transmission installationsMedium-voltage cable pulls and terminationsCivil construction activitiesExcavation and trenching operationsSteel erection projectsStrong understanding of OSHA construction regulations hazard recognition and safety compliance conducting field inspections incident investigations and safety CertificationsOSHA 30 ConstructionCurrent First Aid/CPR/AED CertificationMinimum Approach Distance (MAD) TrainingConfined Space TrainingExcavation and Trenching Safety TrainingTouch and Step Potential Awareness TrainingSteel Erection Safety TrainingCivil Construction Safety TrainingPreferred CertificationsCertified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP)OSHA 510 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction IndustryLicense RequirementsValid drivers license with an acceptable driving to travel to project locations as SkillsStrong knowledge of utility and electrical construction safety of electrical hazards energized work environments grounding and utility industry best interpersonal communication and coaching organizational and administrative with Microsoft Office and safety management to influence safe behaviors and build positive working relationships with employees supervisors contractors and to work independently in a dynamic field environment while managing multiple Opportunity EmployerGaylor Electric Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer including individuals with disabilities and protected veterans.
