As the largest self-supported food service department in North Texas UNT Dining Services is setting the standard for campus dining. With five Dining Halls more than 20 retail locations an upscale restaurant a hydroponic garden a central scratch bakery and full-service catering the department is led by a team of professionally trained chefs and hospitality experts. UNT is recognized as a national leader in university dining known for its innovative trendsetting approach and award-winning culinary talent.

UNT Dining Services is home to Mean Greens Café the nations first 100% vegan collegiate dining hall and Kitchen West Texas first and only university dining hall certified Free From the Big 8 food allergens and 2021 UNT introduced Eagle Landing the universitys first standalone dining hall inspired by urban food halls and featuring seven distinct restaurant conceptsall available for a single Meal Plan swipe.

Recognized for excellence UNT was ranked No. 2 nationwide for best college food by . The department is also the proud recipient of the prestigious Loyal E. Horton Award and the Vegan Recipe Award from the National Association of College and University Food Services. As a founding member of the Menus of Change University Research Collaborative UNT plays an active role in pioneering research on plant-forward diets food waste reduction and consumer food choices all while advancing the principles of healthy sustainable menus.

Position Overview

The Food Service Manager plays a key leadership role in supporting the University of North Texas mission by delivering a high-quality campus dining experience at UNT Eagle Landing. This position oversees all kitchen and dining operations within UNT Eagle Landing ensuring a dynamic student-centered environment that reflects the universitys commitment to excellence.

The manager fosters a culture of culinary quality exceptional customer service and operational integrity while maintaining a welcoming and efficient atmosphere for students faculty staff and guests. They lead teams with a focus on consistency engagement and hospitality ensuring every guest interaction reflects professionalism and care.

By upholding rigorous standards for food quality safety sanitation and cleanliness including strict adherence to HACCP guidelines and all Standard Operating Procedures. The Food Service Manager ensures that every visit to Eagle Landing meets or exceeds expectations and supports UNTs commitment to providing an outstanding campus dining experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Associates degree in related field and two years of experience in food service management; or any equivalent combination of education training and experience.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Strong knowledge of food preparation and food service operations in a high-volume dining environment like Eagle Landing.
Understanding of food safety sanitation employee health standards and proper food handling and storage practices.
Awareness of risks to health and safety that can result from improper food preparation preservation or service.
Knowledge of kitchen equipment tools and standard food production methods used in large-scale dining operations.
Skill in preparing and serving food with attention to quality consistency and customer service standards.
Ability to train supervise and evaluate team members effectively.
Basic recordkeeping skills including tracking time production and cash handling when applicable.
Knowledge of workplace safety and security procedures relevant to food service operations.
Commitment to following established production standards recipes and service procedures with accuracy and consistency.
Ability to recognize when assistance is needed and seek support appropriately to ensure smooth operations.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will have at least two years of food service management experience along with a strong work ethic and a positive professional attitude. The ideal individual is outgoing team-oriented and motivated to succeed while contributing to the continued growth and success of UNT Residential Dining operations.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

ServSafe Certification (or equivalent) in food safety and sanitation or can obtain within 6 months

Job Duties

  • The Food Service Manager oversees food quality and presentation consistently aligned with established standards and customer expectations in assigned area. Develop and implement strategies to enhance service quality and refine food offerings based on supervisory feedback.
  • Provides comprehensive training by equipping staff with the skills needed for exceptional service and food safety. Creates a collaborative and supportive team culture that encourages open communication and employee engagement.
  • Adheres to all University policies health codes and safety standards regularly reviewing practices to ensure adherence.
