Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented customer-focused Unit Secretary to support our laboratory and outpatient services team. This role serves as a key point of contact for patients providers nursing homes and clinical staff by coordinating laboratory orders scheduling appointments managing patient communications and supporting daily office operations. The successful candidate will possess strong organizational skills excellent customer service abilities and a commitment to accuracy in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Process Direct Access laboratory orders for patients.
Answer incoming patient phone calls and assist with inquiries.
Enter laboratory orders received via fax hand delivery electronic transmission or from nursing home facilities.
Contact provider offices to obtain missing incomplete or expired laboratory orders.
Schedule patient appointments and assist with appointment coordination.
Receive and process incoming patient specimens according to established procedures.
Assist with patient check-in responsibilities during staff breaks and coverage needs.
Perform filing scanning and other clerical duties to maintain accurate records.
Complete light cleaning and organization of work areas to support a clean and professional environment.
Collaborate with laboratory staff providers nursing homes and other departments to ensure efficient patient service.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Previous healthcare medical office customer service or clerical experience preferred but not required.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities effectively.
Proficiency with computers and electronic medical record systems preferred.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory ordering processes.
Experience scheduling appointments and handling patient phone calls.
Experience working with healthcare providers nursing homes or clinical support teams.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.At least one year experience in a healthcare setting and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
May require Basic Life Support (BLS) certification dependent upon department.
