Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Energy Underwriter to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting managing and growing a book of energy business including risks across oil & gas renewables power generation and related sectors. The Energy Underwriter will assess complex risks develop tailored solutions and contribute to Starrs continued leadership in the energy insurance market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze evaluate and underwrite new and renewal energy insurance submissions including property casualty and specialty lines.
- Assess complex risks within the energy sector such as upstream midstream downstream power generation and renewables.
- Develop and maintain broker relationships to drive profitable growth and retention of the energy portfolio.
- Negotiate terms conditions and pricing in line with Starrs risk appetite and guidelines.
- Collaborate with claims risk engineering and actuarial teams to holistically assess and price risks.
- Monitor industry trends regulatory changes and emerging risks in the energy market.
- Support and mentor junior underwriting staff as required.
- Ensure compliance with Starr underwriting policies procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in portfolio reviews reporting and audits as needed.
Key Requirements:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience (preferably in insurance business engineering or related field).
- 3 years of commercial underwriting experience with a focus on energy sector risks highly preferred.
- Strong technical underwriting analytical and negotiation skills.
- Deep knowledge of energy industry operations trends and insurance products.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with brokers and clients.
- Excellent communication organizational and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with underwriting platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional insurance designations (e.g. CPCU ARM ARe) are an asset.
- Familiarity with international energy risks or complex/specialty energy placements.
