Join Indian River State Colleges Academic Support Center and help students build confidence creativity and academic this role youll provide individualized and group tutoring support while creating engaging learning experiences that strengthen writing communication critical thinking and digital literacy skills. This position will be working on an AI-driven writing initiative with our students this summer. Youll work closely with faculty and students in a collaborative inclusive environment that encourages independent learning and embraces innovative educational tools including AI-supported learning technologies.

JOB SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision this position provides tutoring and academic support services to students. Responsibilities include delivering individualized and group academic assistance; facilitating engaging learning experiences including creative writing and technology-supported (e.g. AI-assisted) learning; fostering a professional and inclusive environment that supports diverse student populations; encouraging independent learning; and maintaining a learning environment conducive to student success.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with ASC and IRSC faculty and staff to provide tutorial assistance and academic support to IRSC students.
- Links with faculty who teach core subjects to provide a bridge of support between the faculty member and the ASC.
- Communicates with faculty who teach core subjects regarding the performance of their students who are assigned to the ASC for academic support.
- Facilitates student study groups in the ASC or in other designated areas i.e. classrooms computer labs etc.
- Visits classes to promote the services available in the ASC that support student success.
- Utilizes resources to promote/enhance student learning i.e. texts software IRSC/ASC websites printed materials and virtual classrooms.
- Maintains an awareness of current College and Department policies and guidelines.
- Facilitates writing focused and collaborative learning activities incorporating appropriate technology tools.
- Guides students in the effective and responsible use of digital resources to support brainstorming drafting editing and storytelling communication tasks.
- Assists students in the responsible and effective use of technology tools including AI applications to support research writing and critical thinking.
- Encourages development of digital literacy communication and problem-solving skills.
- Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Related work experience; or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job.
- Knowledge of academic tutoring programs.
- Knowledge of instructional techniques and subject matter content.
- Knowledge of collaborative learning strategies and creative writing instruction.
- Skill in organizing and prioritizing.
- Skill in providing customer service.
- Skill in working with Microsoft Office and Windows based applications.
- Skill in facilitating collaborative and interactive student learning experiences.
- Ability to pay attention to detail be team oriented be diplomatic work independently as well as with others and use good judgment.
- Ability to encourage creativity and effective written communication while promoting student engagement.
- Ability to represent the Academic Support Center in a positive manner.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as sedentary work involving lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files ledgers and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.
