Job Description:

SUMMARY

Tutor Module 3: English

The English Tutor works directlywith students either one-on-one or in small group sessions aiming to fosterindependent learning and help students achieve their academic goals.

To be effective in this roletutors should have knowledge from courses such as:


- College Literacies


- Reading and Writing


- College Composition


- Creative Writing


Other Tutoring Topics coveredinclude: academic writing research papers analysis reading comprehensionediting grammar and MLA and APA style guides.


ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • Supportsthe departments goal of providing students with supplemental academic supportby:
  • Provides one-on-one and small group tutoring support
  • Provides subject-specific content strategies attuned to different learning styles and preferences to helpstudents understand key concepts learned in class
  • Provides direct assistance in the use of equipment and learning materials needed for students success
  • Conducts class visits and assists with publicizing the Colleges tutoring services
  • Assists with the maintenance of accurate records in accordance with stated deadlines
  • Completes all necessary paperwork accurately and according to stated deadlines
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials
  • Performs other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The work is performed in a normal professional office environment.
  • The work area is adequately lighted heated and ventilated.
  • Typically the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers files pamphlets books etc.
  • Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite.

Special Note:Set-Rate Non-Bargaining Part-Time Position:This is a Part-Time Non-Bargaining Unit Position with the following Set Rate of Pay: $18.21/ hour.

If hired you must reside in the state of Ohio and be within commuting distance of this work location/campus to respond to onsite work demands upon the employment start date and throughout the duration of your employment with the College as outlined in 3354:1-40-01.1 Recruitment and Selection Procedure.
