Job Summary

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

  • The Truck Mounted Attenuator (TMA) Operator is responsible for providing mobile crash protection for roadway construction operations including milling paving sweeping and other maintenance activities. The TMA Operator plays a critical role in protecting workers equipment and the traveling public by operating an attenuator vehicle within lane closures and work zones in accordance with FDOT standards and company safety procedures. The ideal candidate is safety-driven attentive and disciplined capable of operating within high-risk roadway environments including highways urban corridors and night operations. This position requires a flexible schedule including night work weekends and emergency dispatch assignments across multiple project locations.


POSITION QUALIFICATION/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Florida Drivers License (CDL)
  • At least 1 year of commercial vehicle or construction equipment operating experience preferred.
  • Complete an Operation & Application Truck Mounted Attenuator course/certification.
  • Knowledge of road construction operations work zones and traffic control procedures.
  • Ability to work in high-traffic environments with strong situational awareness.
  • Dependable and flexible with work schedules.
  • Ability to work days nights weekends and extended hours when necessary.
  • Strong safety awareness and commitment to following company policies.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Fluent in English; bilingual Spanish is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a commercial vehicle.
  • Ability to enter and exit truck cab multiple times per shift.
  • Ability to work around traffic noise dust and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to remain alert and focused during long shifts and night operations.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

  • Must demonstrate professional judgment and safe decision-making in high-risk environments.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate a Truck Mounted Attenuator (TMA) vehicle in active roadway construction zones.
  • Provide rear-end crash protection for crews performing milling paving sweeping or cleanup operations.
  • Position the attenuator truck according to FDOT Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) standards.
  • Maintain safe spacing between the attenuator vehicle and the work crew or equipment.
  • Remain alert to surrounding traffic conditions and respond quickly to potential hazards.
  • Communicate with Superintendents Foremen Equipment Operators and Truck Drivers regarding work zone safety conditions.
  • Follow dispatch instructions and adapt to last-minute jobsite or schedule changes.
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections including brakes lights arrow boards attenuator condition and safety equipment.
  • Ensure the attenuator impact cushion is properly mounted and operational.
  • Report any damage incidents or unsafe conditions immediately to management.
  • Maintain the attenuator truck clean and operational at all times.
  • Always wear required PPE in accordance with company safety policies.
  • Protect crew members equipment operators and the public by maintaining a vigilant safety posture.
  • Support the companys Safety Management System and Driver Supervision Program.
