CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Truck Driving InstructorEMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-time REPORTS TO: Training Manager Truck Driving AcademyFLSA STATUS: Non-exempt DIVISION: Enrollment and Workforce Innovation CAMPUS: College-wideDISTINGUISHING JOB CHARACTERISTICSInstruct students to operate various types of commercial equipment to obtain commercial drivers DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTo perform this job successfully an individual must perform essential duties to expected performance standards. Reasonable accommodations are made as required for persons who are disabled under the Americans With Disabilities students using a variety of methods including lectures demonstrations and visual tools to assist students in attaining commercial driving skills. Trains students in areas including operating a commercial motor vehicle proper method of up and down shifting speed management visual scan vehicle control and instruments left and rights turns maintaining required driving logs vehicle inspection and safety students commercial driving rules and DOT regulations. Evaluates students performance in meeting course objectives. Prepares and administers course accurate records documenting students progress and training hours. Prepares and presents lesson plans including course and student performance in academy student job assigned schedule exhibits regular and punctual attendance and works as required to meet workload demands. The work environment involves risks or discomforts requiring normal precautions typical of classroom and outdoor environments and driving conditions. The employee is exposed to weather conditions when driving or riding with students and during outdoor classes including wind rain sleet snow and ice. The work requires the use of safe work practices when operating a commercial motor vehicle and observance of safety and traffic regulations. Exposure to typical traffic conditions and hazards when driving or riding with students. USUAL PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe following physical demands are typically used to perform this jobs essential duties and responsibilities. The employee must normally exercise good eye/hand/foot coordination when operating CMV. Vision demands include distance vision when driving CMV. The employee frequently talks and hears when instructing and working with students. An example of an acceptable qualification is: High School degree or GED plus CDL driver training for training managers with three to five years related experience in operating a commercial motor vehicle and previous training must successfully pass required background checks driving records check and drug test in accordance with Southern State Community Colleges policies and procedures and applicable laws.
