Job Summary:
This entry-level role supports transmission and interconnection efforts by developing powerflow dynamic and PSCAD models and assisting with production cost modeling to evaluate congestion and basis risks. Responsibilities include conducting interconnection deliverability and contingency analyses using tools such as PSSE TARA and PowerWorld; maintaining accurate transmission models; reviewing regional transmission plans; and gathering data from interconnection queues and utility plans to support scenario development. The position also involves coordinating documenting and building study models for interconnection applications while contributing to project development. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented self-motivated team player with foundational knowledge of power systems or energy markets strong analytical skills and the ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the transmission and interconnection team by building powerflow dynamic and PSCAD models for various regions of interest.
- Support building PROMOD and market production cost analysis models for performing basis and congestion risk assessment.
- Perform and review generation interconnection analysis deliverability analysis and contingency analysis using study tools such as TARA PSSE and Power world as needed.
- Review transmission plans for various regions and ensure that powerflow models are up to date for internal analysis to support companys strategic growth.
- Gather the data and intelligence from Interconnection queues and utility IRPs for developing scenarios.
- Coordinate document and build all study models as needed in support of interconnection applications
Requirements
- Ability to prepare documentation and gather market data to support the interconnection and project development efforts.
- Ability to function in a team under the guidance of senior staff and demonstrate a strong motivation to learn new tools in a very fast-paced environment.
- Ability to understand detailed technical issues effectively be self-motivated and inquisitive about new initiatives
- Ability to produce results in a timely manner and understand the business needs.
- Ability to obtain approval to access Critical Energy Infrastructure Information (CEII) see Experience
- Must be authorized to work for any US employerwithout the need for work visa sponsorship now or in the future.
- Masters degree in electrical engineering or equivalent or 12-year relevant industry experience is required.
- 0-2 years of experience in economic modeling energy market data analysis and/or powerflow analysis is preferred.
- Experience with Excel and MS office Suite is desired. Demonstrated competency in other modeling statistical analysis and/or optimization software is strongly desired but not required.
- Experience working with Transmission Service Providers (including ISOs/RTOs) thorough knowledge of FERC transmission tariffs NERC standards and interconnection processes is a plus
