Summary:
The Maintenance Mechanic III serves as the senior technical expert and subject matter expert for the Goldbelt Tram aerial tramway and supporting facility systems. This position performs advanced diagnostics preventative and corrective maintenance major repairs system overhauls and technical oversight for mechanical hydraulic electrical and control systems. Working with a high degree of independence the Maintenance Mechanic III leads complex troubleshooting efforts supports regulatory compliance and annual inspections mentors maintenance personnel and provides technical leadership during emergency response and rescue operations. This position supports the Maintenance Supervisor in ensuring safe reliable and efficient tramway operations in compliance with ANSI standards manufacturer specifications and Goldbelt operational requirements.
Qualifications
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Expert knowledge of industrial mechanical hydraulic electrical control and tramway systems
- Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with the ability to perform complex root-cause failure analysis
- Thorough understanding of ANSI tramway standards manufacturer requirements inspection protocols and preventative maintenance programs
- Extensive knowledge of annual inspections load testing procedures major component inspections and regulatory compliance requirements
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings electrical schematics hydraulic diagrams technical manuals and manufacturer documentation
- Knowledge of predictive and reliability-centered maintenance principles
- Strong leadership mentoring coaching and technical training skills
- Excellent organizational analytical and technical documentation skills
- Advanced proficiency using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- Ability to lead emergency rescue operations and provide technical leadership during critical incidents
- Excellent communication interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Ability to exercise sound technical judgment and make operational recommendations regarding equipment reliability and safety
Minimum Qualifications (education experience skills):
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 6-7 years of progressively responsible journey-level industrial mechanical electrical aerial tramway ropeway or closely related maintenance experience
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex mechanical hydraulic electrical and control systems
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification
- Rope Access and/or Fall Protection certification
- Valid drivers license
Preferred Qualifications (education experience skills):
- Previous aerial tramway or ski lift maintenance experience
- Supervisory or lead maintenance experience
- Industrial electrical controls PLC hydraulic or welding certifications
- Manufacturer-specific tramway maintenance training
- Experience serving as a qualified rescue team member or trainer
Working Conditions
Aerial tramway terminal environment (2000 ft. elevation); extreme heights and dangerous overhead work areas exposed to inclement weather conditions; extremely dangerous electrical and/or mechanical conditions and equipment.
Routine movement in/out of an aerial tramway cabin as part of an aerial tramway operation at a 2000 ft. elevation; constant public interaction and communication; constant exposure to extreme heights; periodic exposure to dangerous equipment during emergency evacuations or power failures.
During emergency evacuations or equipment failure expected to assist management. Must be able to hike trails to assist management in various emergencies (e.g. medical missing persons etc.) Must be able to lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. of various tram equipment/supplies. The Tram is a non-smoking facility with designated outside-smoking areas.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is constantly required to stand walk talk hear use hands and fingers to operate handle or feel objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. Frequent climbing stooping kneeling and bending are required. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision close vision peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to enter exit and ride an aerial tramway in order to reach the upper worksite.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Serve as the departments primary technical resource and subject matter expert for the inspection maintenance troubleshooting repair and operation of the aerial tramway and related mechanical hydraulic electrical and control systems
- Perform advanced diagnostics preventative maintenance corrective maintenance major repairs component rebuilds and system overhauls on tramway equipment and supporting infrastructure
- Lead complex troubleshooting efforts by diagnosing equipment failures identifying root causes and developing long-term corrective actions to improve equipment reliability and performance
- Perform and coordinate annual tramway inspections major component inspections operational testing and required load testing in accordance with ANSI standards manufacturer requirements and regulatory guidelines
- Conduct root-cause failure analyses following equipment malfunctions or system failures and recommend corrective and preventive maintenance strategies
- Review maintenance documentation inspection records testing results and repair reports to ensure accuracy completeness and regulatory compliance
- Maintain maintenance records equipment histories inventory lifecycle documentation and long-range replacement planning
- Assist with maintenance budgeting capital planning procurement of specialized equipment and evaluation of replacement components
- Provide technical leadership mentoring coaching and hands-on training to Maintenance Mechanics I and II promoting safe work practices and technical skill development
- Ensure compliance with ANSI standards manufacturer recommendations OSHA requirements and Goldbelt safety policies and procedures
- Support inspections conducted by regulatory agencies manufacturers and third-party inspectors by preparing documentation participating in inspections and coordinating corrective actions
- Lead emergency response evacuation rescue recovery operations and emergency maintenance activities serving as the senior technical advisor during emergency events
- Evaluate equipment conditions and authorize or recommend suspension of tram operations when equipment reliability weather conditions or safety concerns warrant operational restrictions.
- May assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Tram Maintenance Supervisor by coordinating maintenance activities and assigning work priorities
- Support facility improvement projects modernization initiatives equipment upgrades and reliability improvement programs
- Perform other incidental and related duties as assigned
