Jefferson County Open Space is currently hiring Trails Technicians for a unique role. The Trails Technician I is responsible for performing entry level labor and semi-skilled activities related to the construction maintenance and stewardship of the open space trails system and related infrastructure while training on the methods and techniques.

The Mission of Jefferson County Open Space is to preserve open space and parkland protect park and natural resources and provide healthy nature-based experiences.

SCHEDULE:

This position operates on our four-day work week (Monday-Thursday 7:00am 5:30pm).

COMPENSATION:

The anticipated hiring range for this role is: $25.00 -$27.00 USD Hourly

Compensation will be determined based on education experience and skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Work involves constructing trails using hand tools power toolsand heavy equipment.
  • Employee is responsible for maintaining trails installing erosion control devices and inspecting the trail system.
  • Work also involves vegetation control constructing stairs tie walls and fencing and assisting in field supervision LTEs Trail Stewardship Team field crews and Volunteer Program.
  • Train and assist in the construction repair and maintenance of trails and related infrastructure. Manually excavate trails and lay aggregate and stone.
  • Train in building trail features including small bridges and stairs utilizing timber wood stone and aggregate.
  • Train and assist in the maintenance and repair of trails and related infrastructure. Train in conducting inspections of trails.
  • May provide oversight of limited seasonal and volunteer workers at worksite locations.
  • Interact with the public to communicate and provide education on trails usage and regulations. Train in the principles and practices of trails stewardship.
  • Perform snow removal activities utilizing hand tools and power equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent certificate
  • Experience: None
  • Certifications/Licenses: None

Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • One or more years of specific trails maintenance/construction.
  • Experience with Natural Resources and/or instruction.
  • Additional course work in Natural Resource Management Outdoor Recreation Park Maintenance or related field.

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION:

  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including skid steer roller/compactor water pump chainsaw and a variety of hand tools and power tools. Requires ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Criminal History and MVR Background Checks are required for every position.
  • A valid Colorado drivers license is required for positions that drive on County Business in either a county or personal vehicle within 30-days of hire or beginning to serve as an intern or volunteer.
